Hi all, New member. Just purchased an SC-Custom in Honey Flame following positive reviews on here. Probably bought it at the top of its price (£195) but can't be bothered to faff for £20-25 saving. Really excited - just a keen beginner want to learn some songs and play for fun. Not expecting to be the next Slash ! What have people used or recommended for guitar stands, guitar case and picks? Welcome xera The SC Custom is a good guitar. I had bought one some 2 years ago and was impressed on how versatile it was. Back then, the LAF Alnico pickups were splitable, so you could go from metal to hard rock to blues to funk... And so on I sold it to a friend's son a few months after and he's having tons of fun with it. Hope you'll enjoy it The LAFs on his should be splittable too, the tone is a push/pull.

Depends on how much it offends you tich65a . No cash refund in the world seems to turn something that annoys me into something that doesn't. I've had guitars that were almost free that didn't call to me to play them unless I sorted out something offensive (see my Ibanez headstock solution!). Others can be an easy cheap fix - horrible knobs, scratchplate etc. This join line doesn't sound as though it would be the latter so it then just comes down to how much it puts you off liking it. I'm not sure what happens if you're given some sort of refund and then you decide you still hate that line. Presumably you still have certain consumer rights within a fixed return period. Thanks Pal. Did think about sending it back - but sadly there are no more and I don'y really like the blue option. Anyway they have offered me £25 refund so I guess I'll go with that. Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

I see what you mean tich65a. That's not a bad refund if you can live with it. It's a fine looking guitar otherwise and perhaps the fact that it's not bookmatched is making it more noticeable...or less! Funnily enough it does almost look bookmatched in the section between the two pickups.

Harley Benton SC Custom 2Just because it's not there now doesn't mean it won't reappear again in the future. Use the online chat, they should be able to tell you. Personally, I wouldn't accept that even with a discount.

Personally, I wouldn't accept that even with a discount. I, on the other hand would take the small discount and happily play that guitar, assuming the playability lived up to the quality of my current SC-Custom. Don't get me wrong, how my guitar looks is somewhat important - but it definitely falls to the bottom of the list of my priorities. Especially when weighed against playability and logistics concerns like shipping time. Besides - it's pretty much a guarantee that if I really like how a guitar plays, it will get used live, and eventually take a whack that will be much more egregious than that little line (EG - The stage manager that knocked my Hellraiser off a 4 foot stage - thankfully it was still in its case. Or the other stage manager that knocked my SG off its stand - which was in a back corner, behind the guitar amps. Dinged the guitar pretty well and was forceful enough to actually break the stand). Come to think of it, my harley bentons are the only guitars that haven't fallen victim to stage atrocities beyond my penchant for occasionally spilling beer on them during a show (ok - more than occasionally) Everyone prioritizes this kind of stuff differently, for sure. For the price of an SC-Custom, I want solid playability. I'm buying a well built guitar shaped piece of wood with grover tuners. I expect the pots and wiring to be trash (Even my nicest HBs all came with crap pots and wiring). I expect to have to go after at least a couple frets to get them leveled. I expect to have to polish every one of them. I expect that the pickups will probably need to be replaced to sound the way I want them to. When I get one that doesn't need a fret level (like my SC-Custom), or doesn't need a pickup replacement (my SC-Jr), or doesn't have a weird finish blemish (my SC-Custom again), it's a pleasant surprise. On the other hand - an Epiphone Les Paul costs about twice as much. I tend to be much less forgiving about finish issues, fret leveling and such. Once I get into Gibson prices and above, the damned thing better be pretty close to perfect, right out of the box. I currently own guitars from all of the manufacturers referenced above. My Schecter and my Gibson get almost no play at all these days, My Epiphone gets used for specific purposes. My two regular players are fantastically built harley benton guitar shaped pieces of wood that have gone through the ringer and have been transformed into exactly what I wanted them to be - and the amount of work to get there was surprisingly little. P.S. - I will admit to a small bit of luck. Based on posts in this forum, I think my SC-Custom is the only one in existence with perfectly applied body binding

Thanks all for the useful advice. Will reply to individual posts in a while but just wanted to show my gratitude.
My guitar shows a slight line but in that sense is perfect and works for me. The line from the other poster is defo noticeable but as others said it's a level of priority.
My frets were not level so had to get that done. Had it done by a pro and it's sounding great - as a newbie couldn't have done or understood much of it myself.
Discussing with Thomann an appropriate discount to cover this work as can't find another replacement I like. It's an excellent guitar otherwise.
I agree on strings. Only had it a few weeks and can see them needing changing very soon.

Hi @donut I guess if I was playing in a band or the like I would not have accepted it, but I only play at home on my own so it's only me who will see it... I'll add the £25 to some other HB guitar ... maybe the JA60 or TE-90 QM - always fancied p90's ....The only thing I'm not sure about is the scale length and if it will make any difference to my very limited playing skills ....
