Perhaps we are wrong thinking it's a tobacco sunburst? Thomann do list it as Faded tobacco flame?
I can't decide what colour mine is 🤔 but I like it. What surprised me was being able to see the flame in the dark outer edge/burst. I presumed a it would have an almost black edge/burst.

To be honest when I unpacked mine I was blown away and didn't really think what the actual colour was!
I've just been looking at different brands LP's, Vintage, Epiphone, Gibson etc.
Tobacco Sunburst, Honey burst, iced tea, bourbon burst. From the brief search I did you couldn't really say any two were similar or dissimilar, it's a minefield!
As my 550 is Vietnam made I'm reaming it a Saigon flame. You will have to stick a pin in a map of China and rename the finish on yours @coldwar1977 🤪

Received my sc-550 yesterday. Made in vietnam. Quality of build is excellent as in the components and feel. Everything nice and tight and no blemishes really. However the color finish is entirely inconsistent. Don't expect to receive what is pictured. It could be better or it could be worse. My Paradise amber flame is definitely not what is pictured. To conclude, Build quality exceeds expectations Colored Finish Was disappointing imo. But thats just an opinion on judging it relative to what is advertised. This was supposed to be "Paradise Amber Flame" and that's what the sticker on the carton had printed on it. The "Paradise Amber Flame" models seem to hardly ever look like the Thomann pics. I was happy with this variation, though.

I was happy with this variation, though. Definitely a gorgeous finish on yours with that golden flare. Its quite the polar opposite of what I received. Golden vs Dark Brownish/green which is wild. Also your fretboard must have been advertised as something else as its practically black. Was it ebony before? My tuners are also a glow in the dark green which I notice is different than the creamier colored advertised. Quite interesting. Each day mines growing on me, different angles get different emotions outta me haha.

A real lottery in the looks department, by most accounts, but as long as it plays well or can be made to, all is good. Also your fretboard must have been advertised as something else as its practically black. Was it ebony before? I think it was supposed to be rosewood, but I couldn't swear to it. I hadn't really noticed that it was darker. My tuners are also a glow in the dark green which I notice is different than the creamier colored advertised. Quite interesting. Do you mean " snot green"? A number of mine have that colour or similar. Each day mines growing on me, different angles get different emotions outta me haha. Glad to hear it!

Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

It's gorgeous Gretsch Orange in the evening at home, sometimes even a sort of sophisticated tan brown. Stunning barley sugar under stage lights. And really cheap bright Trump Orange in sunlight. It changes more than any other guitar I own. Fortunately the tuners are gold!

My SC-550 just arrived today. It is a B-Stock Desert Amber Burst from Vietnam and it does look great to me. I have tried to add a picture and it has not worked yet.

Im on a macbook and use the app gyazo for forum pictures. Then i copy and paste the "Direct Link" provided by the application when a screenshot is taken to input into the little image button thing in this forum. Also just saw the movie "Danger Close" About a war taken place in vietnam. Weird sensation about wars that go on, and products built and bought now like nothing ever happened. Wild.

Hiya,
Apologies if jumping in on a different discussion but I’m debating on ordering the SC-550 and this is the most recent post regarding one.
I have a SC-450 from about 2 years ago that is a fantastic player, but the neck is a bit on the chunky side for my tastes. I’ve read comments that eluded to the SC-550 having a possibly different neck profile, a bit slimmer. I’ve not seen any concrete proof of this, though. So do any of you fine folks have any experience or knowledge with regards to this? I’ve emailed Thomann, but no response.
Many thanks!

My 550 is just over a year old my 450 about 9 months old. The 550 neck is slimmer than the 450 I have. It's not super slim but definitely not chunky like the 450.

Well, it took about a week for them to respond back (that's okay as I'm remaining patient as can be....)
"Hello, the Harley Benton SC-550 Desert Flame Burst is made in Vietnam. Kind regards,
Raluca Cocris, Export Sales Tel: +49 9546 9223-532 | Fax:+49 9546 9223-24 | E-Mail: export@thomann.de Web: thomann.de/gb Opening Hours Customer Centre"
--- so, unlike the SC-Customs (which, I believe are now made in China) the SC-550s are still in production in Vietnam.
