Hey guys. Waiting on my HB-35 to arrive, from what I’ve seen online (YouTube reviews) ect is that the stock tuners aren’t that reliable, so was just wondering what would be the best after market tuners to go for that fit right in (reluctant to drill the headstock). Also how are the stock pups? Be an idea to swap them out or are they good enough for the job? It’s my first hollow body mainly having stuck with Les Pauls over the years so just curious to people’s opinion if they have the 35 or tried one out. Cheers fellow guitar-nerds!

Hi,
I have a HB-35. Its a 2017 model but, going by the current product pictures on the Thomann site, the tuners look to be the same still. The tuners may not be the best but I've not had any problems with them. They work and the guitar holds tune well. From my (limited) experience, having the strings binding in the slots is far more likely to cause tuning problems than the tuners. On my HB-35, the nut slots were well cut.
Ironically, it was only when I got the HB-35, that I realised that I really had to get my much more expensive Epiphone SG looked at. The low end intonation was out and it would detune after string bends. The HB-35 suffered from neither problem and showed up the Epiphone.
As far as the pups are concerned, I assume that you are getting the basic HB-35, not the HB-35 Plus. On the basic HB-35 the pickups are unbranded and simply described as "Vintage-style humbuckers". I find them a bit dark. This video shows the difference when the ceramic magnets are swapped for AlNiCo 2 magnets, which could be a relatively low cost upgrade:
