I ordered a bow and some rosin from Thomann so I can try my hand at bowing the EUB. I've never bowed before, so that, in and of itself, will be a learning experience. I do know, however, that it is bowable, as shown here:
I've been anxiously awaiting delivery. It's been 11 days and just today the shipping info shows that it arrived in country and was sorted by DHL. I'm assuming (HOPING) that that means I'll get it tomorrow.
It was an inexpensive carbon fiber and wood bow, 44€. I lucked out because, a week later, the price went up to 55€!
I'll post some clips after I get it.

Well, my bow and rosin (and clip on tuner) never arrived on Friday as I was hoping. It was in the DHL facility on Thursday morning, so I assumed I'd have it on Friday. Well, they do say "never assume, because you make and "ass" out of "u" and "me", We had some snow last week, so it may have held back some deliveries, pushing everything back a couple of days. I hope to have it on Monday although I wished I had it so I could try it out tomorrow as I have the whole day off (I had to work today, Saturday). Patience.

It's just ironic because I purposely placed my order on a Sunday evening so that it would be shipped out first thing Monday and, supposedly, get here faster. That idea went out the window

It's alive! It's alive! The bow and rosin (and tuner) showed up bright and early today. After lots of help from a fellow forumite on TB (Thanks Bisounourse!) and watching several YouTube vids, I forged ahead. So, I tightened up the bow, not too much. Swiped some rosin on it and it didn't work at first. The hair just slipped on the strings. So, I had to put more than 2 swipes to get the rosin to stick and have the hair grab the string. I'm guessing this is because the hair was new, and perhaps the rosin was a bit hard (it's chilly here. I did rough up the surface of the rosin first). It was interesting as when I first swiped the rosin the hair just slipped but then I could feel it starting to grab. Very cool Then, I played the EUB with the bow and it made a VERY deep and rich and beautiful sound! Wow! I'm not half bad (I'm sure pro's would say different). I played some natural minor scales as that is what sounded most appropriate. I got some clean(ish) notes! The interesting part is having to make sure to evenly regulate the downward pressure to get and even sound. A whole new avenue(s) of exploration has begun! VIdeo clips to come soon!

Here are a couple of vids of me playing the EUB500, one piz (finger) and one arco (bow). I'm brand new to bowing, and only been playing UB for a couple of months or so, so cut me some slack

(samurai) Nice work GKon, keep it up!! Thanks! I had to make it quick, hence just playing a scale rather than a song, because it's "quiet time" here between 2:30pm and 5:30pm, and I wanted to get it done before then and time was running out. By the way, did you notice the poster behind me? Matches up with this: (samurai)

Hi all
I'm new to EUBs (and to the Forum) - Just got my black Harley Benton EUB. I play a bit of Electric Bass in a Blues Band (I'm not very good, but I think I'm improving).
Have you got any advice on buying a stand for the HB? Thomann sells stands for the Stagg, but I'm not sure if the HB will fit. Shall I go for a double bass stand? Any suggestions will be welcome.
Cheers
Claw

Hi Claw, I actually use a folding guitar stand with mine (see link). Obviously the spike needs to be fully retracted. What's great about it though is that I can play sitting down with the bass wedged in this stand. In my band I play Cajon into a looper so I can sit on the cajon and switch between bass and percussion easily. www.thomann.de/gb/millenium_gs2001e.htmIt's not 100% secure on this stand though and it will fall over it someone knocks into it!

Cheers Claw Hi Claw, My apologies for such a late reply. I was moving from one country to another, and also had some major life issues going on. I'm back now, though. I ordered the STAGG SV-DB DOUBLE BASS STAND item #: 259848 from Thomann. www.thomann.de/intl/stagg_sv_db_double_bass_stand.htmIt's designed for an AUB, but it works very well with the HB EUB 500. You have to set the bottom arms at their highest setting. Once you do, it holds the bass very well. I installed some extra padding on those arms, as I noticed some cracking of the paint on the EUB where they touched. I don't know if they were already there, or if it had something to do with the arms. I know some padding reacts with certain types of paint. Once I repaded them (I used a sleeve plumbers install over pipes) I've had no problem. The top of the stand has a clip that holds the neck in place, so no worries about falling, slipping out of the stand. And, there's a hanger for your bow, if you use one. I can place mine in the stand with the endpin extended to the height I use it, but just. I'm 5'6". I hope this helps.

I bought some red and some white 1/8 inch pinstriping tape for another project I'm working on. I figured I'd first try it out on my EUB. Took all of 10 minutes. What do you think?
