Some forums are so self righteous I would be bashed for asking but people seemed more laid back and budget minded here. Are there any companies currently manufacturing a short scale Rickenbacker 325 "John Lennon" style guitar?
John Hall of Rickenbacker has lawyers on hand ready to attack anyone, business or private, trying to sell one in the United States so they are impossible to get here. When a 70's japanese copy shows up it is usually very expensive as well.
I need a really short scale electric for chord voicings that hurt my finger joints and there is no way i can afford a "real" 325. Has anybody seen any current production ones or used ones anywhere that would ship to the US?
I know HB makes one but it has a 25 inch (628mm) scale and I need the 20.75 (527mm) inch scale.
Any ideas would be great.

I think the only places where you have decent chance of finding one is AliExpress or DHGate. However, the stuff they deliver can be a bit of a hit or miss, some people received okay instrument, others were less lucky and got instruments that needed work done on them.
My personal experience with two lefty Jazz V basses I bought through AliExpress was they needed a fair bit of work on them before they were playable, but given there is no lefty Jazz V available from Fender or Squier there was no other choice and I had to go for these.
At the moment there is a lefty Rick 4005 replica on its way to me, I don't have a clue how good it will be but as long as the basic build is okay I can fix everything. Having said that, I like the tinkering and fooling around to make something good from them, if you are not into this tinkering I would strongly advise you to stay away from the instruments that are being sold over there.

I've bought that junk multiple times. I was able to make the bolt on neck electrics playable after replacing almost all of the hardware, leveling and crowning frets and sometimes shimming necks because half of the time the truss rods are stuck and don't work. The acoustics are usually unplayable because the neck angle is set wrong and you cant heat up the neck joint and pull it because they don't use hide glue. The only thing they make in those "factories" that I've seen that was ok were Les Paul fakes. I dont know about basses but I'm glad you got some usable ones and were able to make them work. Also, the copies for sale on those trade sights look like a 325 but actually have a long scale neck. A friend ordered one and in the picture the neck was short scale but when he got it, it was long scale. I think I'm gonna have to just spend around 800 euros and get a good Greco or Aria copy from the 70s-80s. They were very acurate reproductions but their prices have really gone up. If anyone else knows a source of decent quality Rick copies, let me know. And thanks Blablas for the response

Still having no luck finding a rick 325 copy. I'm thinking of going the route Blablas mentioned but I know I'll spend twice as much making it playable. Is the "Eagle" brand of this guitar still available in Scandinavia? There has to be a music store somewhere in Europe that has these and ships to the US.

Aliexpress or DHgate option is worse, better keep away! I bought three acoustics from there - lots of troubles and money waste.

Nothing could be worse than this monstrosity at Thomann.

Ahh, the Loog. Some New York University student's idea. Kickstarter got it into production. With a name like that and the look of it I thought it was a Lapland reindeer herding stick. But no, it's a danelectro for 3 year olds. Who knew? "ALL HOCK THE LOOG"!

Ché, Check my experience with 1 of their models in your "Fazley" thread. Note that for that money you will never be able to buy 3 P90's

I don't know if they have this particular model, but Eastwood makes good guitar for a fair price range. Thomann sells their guitars!

Even looking for a nice "Rick" in China (like I did, for a 360-12 that is) will result in at least 3 problems when ordering : 1. What about the quality of the Guitar ? (With HB you are sure you will get some) 2. Is the model exactly the one that you saw and ordered on the website ? Most pictures are fake. 3. Import, When you get it here, will customs and "R", like the big "G" btw, stop you from getting it. So up to now, I didn't find ANY guitar that sounds like a Rick : Most models that will be close to it are all "Gretsch" alike models but that is what someone, eyeing a "Rick" sound, doesn't want.
