I know this is a longish post and I also know Im starting to be boring with the same subject Im bringing up but please bare with me here because Im sure I am onto something here this time and some cash is coming my way so ...
Im still on the quest of finding one amp that I can play with both my bass and my guitar and since bass kind of needs a proper bass amp its just expected to look for such and see which one is the best choice for guitar playing through it also. (money is always an issue so dont even dream of asking what my budget is, as cheap as possible is the goal with as best tone as possible).
I'm sick and tired of playing my bass through Reaper (on the computer in general) hence me playing it less and less. I want an option just to plug in and off I go. A few extra pedals to shape the sound. I dont mind if I have to use my headphones for a while but in time I would go for a 2x10" (maybe I make my own cabinet and just buy 2 bass speakers which also suit guitars, I have a workshop with a table saw and other tools).
What I seem to need is a clean bass amp and it doesnt need to be loud. I have looked again at this Hotone Thunder Bass amp head which is based on the Ampeg SVT and most online reviews say its damn sweet sounding and very close to the real thing. I like the sound personally, that slightly overdriven growl is just awesome. What I can't find is any sound demos of a guitar played through this amp head. Do you know of any to link to or even about some of your lads over at Talk Bass trying it on their guitars?
What I like about this amp head is the Line Out (which is also a headphone out) and can be used to plug it direct into an interface for recording. It also has a FX Loop which is an extra because I love to mess with chorus, reverb and delay.
I would primarily use this amp with a Looper like Nux Loop Core for composing guitar and bass instrumentals. I would first lay down a bass line and then tweak the amp for laying down a guitar. I would use either my Nux Amp Sim pedal for the guitar and am considering buying the American Sound for more tweakability.
In case Im happy with the track I could just plug the head into the interface and record to Reaper DAW.
Also what do you think of this set up to kill two flies with one slap
