I've played the BZ strung with tapes and agree it plays great.
OK I'm slightly biased as I'm a big fan of tapes. Just days after Derek bought the D'Addarios, the last 5 sets of Status Hot Wires were found.
Were sold out within the hour.

Added D'Addario tapewounds (and a modbar) to my Epi EB-0. It went from an ok bass to a really nice instrument, in my opinion

Have you tried chromes Derek and if so how would the tapewounds compare? i really like the brightness of the chromes but im new to flat wounds and cant really justify new strings just yet but have a p bass project i want to put a heavy set on and am now thinking tapes.

Sorry mate , Ive not been on for a few days and just seen this . The tapes are darker and mellower than the chromes . The chromes are much brighter but as I was discussing with kodiakblair the other evening , if you're using an active bass the mellower sound can be brightened up a bit as can the chromes be toned down to suit . I really like the deeper sound but like the chromes too . Im glad Ive got more than one bass , so I can have both ;-)

Not yet, I got a uke bass deko and have lost a bit of interest in the p bass and am torn between making it frettless and getting a PB50 and putting the tapes on that as the p bass project has a nice neck but the frets are beyond saving. I've should have free shipping on my next order so will definitely put some heavy tapes in that and might try them on my JB75 as it's very trebbley with roundwounds but it goes against my DNA to take off strings before they are well and truly dead and then it was always a quick boil with a dash of vinegar and get another practice before a new set!
