My dear Bentonites I have a dilemma, a serious one which haunts me even in my dreams as of late I have recently returned to Thomann the ST-62 strat which had buzz issues and Thomann as per usual asked no questions and returned me the money. I will have that money on me bank account next week probably Tuesday. I need another guitar something with different sound. Right now I only have one good guitar and that is my trusted Harley Benton L-450Plus which has 2 vintage alnico humbuckers and they sounds awesome. I aslo have a ST-20 reliced with alnico V single coils but the guitar is not the best and I keep it mostly because it was my very first HB guitar I decided to get the TE-90QM because of the P90's and its a very nice looking guitar too, I also hope its not that heavy. BUT, .... ... Thomann keeps coming up with new models right now (as you all know Im sure) and I am comparing prices and looking at those new push-pull coil split specs and I just cant make up my mind anymore Im looking at the new Harley Benton CST-24 Black Cherry Flame DLX www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_cst_24_black_cherry_flame_dlx.htmI mean its just awesome to have the option on one guitar to play both singe coil and humbucker pups and these WHHB Alnico I had on my SC-550 Paradise flame and they are very hot so great for lead but I dont know how they sound as single coil (very likely awesome). Im not a fan of wraparound bridges but then again I never tried one so its more of me assuming that I might find it uncomfortable for palm muting. Im also trying to get away from heavy body guitars yet even this one is mahogani ... Any way tell me what do you think Im better off with the TE-90QM with P90's or this new push/pull split coil Harley Benton CST-24 Black Cherry Flame DLX ? Thank you for helping me out!

I would get the TE but that just me liking better that model anyway when I play my CST-24 BK I don't even think about it and palm muting is no difference then on my tun o magic bridges. Thomas actually just gave me an idea with their latest CST models maybe I should but a push/pull in some of my guitars, Like on my L450+ I could have 2 push/pull combination of humbucker/humbucker humbucker/singelcoil singelcoil/humbucker Singelcoil/singelcoil

I installed a push pull volume or in my cst24t yesterday. I wired it up so as to give me in and out of phase neck pickup. I've also installed a pair of new tonerider alnico 2 pickups. I prefer the sound compared to the original ceramic ones and those Peter Green tones are easily obtained by playing with the volume and tone controls. The new push pull pot was only about £8 or so, I also replaced the tone pot for a cts one. This required enlarging the holes in the guitar with a drill (in reverse so as not to cut into the wood chipping the varnish). The guys at tonerider sent me the wiring diagram to follow. The guitar now has a new range of classic tones.

I installed a push pull volume or in my cst24t yesterday.. I prefer the sound compared to the original ceramic Im confused CST24t comes with WHHB Alnico humbuckers which are very hot, hotter than Tonerider Alnico II I which are more into PAF territory I think just like my L-450Plus pups. Or am I mistaken?

Im more after versatility of sound than anything else. Sure I would love a light weight guitar but to hell with it if sound is great. If I ever tried the P90's I would probably not even blink and just buy at once but these new models with push-pull coil split could give me that one guitar I always go for when making new songs ... Im not confident with soldering and electronics otherwise i would do stuff myself ... Dunno what to do

Maybe the HB version of the CST-24 BCF might be the right one for you. It´s hollow like the tele and has the push-pull too.

Or am I mistaken? Every where I've checked, the whhb are ceramic pickups. I wanted a more classic alnico sound and thus opted for alnico 2 like the 59 les pauls were fitted with. If I want more output I'll just crank it up to 11 on the amp.

Personally, I'd go for the TE-90QM. It's a beautiful looking guitar, and combined with your L450 gives you a really wide range of tones.
Don't get too excited about the coil-split on the new CST-24. I've owned a few guitars with coil-split and coil-tap and they've all been disappointing, very thin & weak sounding, and nothing like a good quality single coil. The P90s on the TE-90QM will have more character & grunt. Check out the 'Blues 2' sound sample on the TE-90QM page - coil splits don't sound like that, they sound more like weak strat pickups.

Check out the clips on you tube, that p90 equipped tele sounds really nice and was in my wish list for some time too. Who knows how long it's going to be available for? Thomman seem to be changing their line up at the moment

I would go for the Tele also! P-90s are my favourite pickup, I just love the raw gritty growl they give when overdriven I hope your prepared for the hum.

i have a coil tap, not a split on my MIA tele. full mahogany body with maple cap and mahogany set baseball neck 3,8kg its a nice option but its not that you'll be missing something if you don't have that on a humbucker guitar. it nice to instantly drop the output of your signal for example, and it adds a bit of versatility. is it useful, yes. will you mis it if you don't have it on another guitar, no there is a warp around bridge on my prs soapbar, i find it the easiest to mute. as you can see theres already part of the chrome thats fading. it has a mahogany body with a maple veneer on top. chimes in at just under 3kg, partly due to its tiny body that about the lights you can get with standard wooden guitar. if you won't do drop to 2,7kg and lower you'll have to look for a parker fly, but thats a whole other price tag the HB tele with is ashtray bridge is more of a hassle to mute. anything of the T type or ST type will hover around the 3,5kg to 4 kg depending on the wood and type of construction is used. you'll be hard prest to find it in the sub 3,5 kg, even if its partly chambered it won't tack that much of. also be aware that P90"s due to there construction have a specific sound, you may like it our you may hate it. for myself i always disliked them, till i found the soapbar i have now. they somehow sound good to my ears on this one. even today i often dislike them when i try another P90 guitar out.
