DefJefBy all means try flats on the Ray,if you have them, could be exactly the tone for you. Looking at my fingers I'd say the top 10mm is what I pluck with, short thumbs so that's where they land :-)

That's where I'm trying to use more the pad and not the hard tips that my guitaring has left.

Left hand muting i.e. if you're travelling up the neck, mute the note you just played. There's other techniques, that one's easy.
Floating thumb . Mutes the open strings your not playing. Rest on E to play on D,Rest on A to play on G.
Palm mute for pick. Don't need to tell you this one. You play guitar !!
To use the left hand pads more. I seem to have my fingers across the strings than poised above.
Just got in from work so will have a think how to word things properly.
Again my 30 odd year of bad habits and poor technique should be taken as that.

As you can see not the biggest hands by any means DefJef and will probably have others recoiling in horror but here's my hand position. You'll see how far my fingers come over the neck, I tilt my fingers diagonally as I move from E to G strings. Not easy photos to take by yourself

Brilliant kodiakblair. That's a far flatter hand position than I've been using as I've tried to come down from the tippy fingers guitar style. I've been attempting to use the fleshier part of my fingers but I can see how this very flat hand position would help me in left hand muting. I can even see how much of the pad of the finger you use from the indentations in your fingers. Terrific stuff. Do we have a techniques section? If not perhaps we should? Those inlays look nice too. What's the story there?

Really glad that made sense DefJef . Being completely unschooled it's hard for me to explain things, never know the correct terms. I'll be terrible if we start a technique section, I'll try my best though but can see a mantra of "take a few lessons" being repeated often The inlays are on the HB-60 VW,nice wee bass but definitely designed for neck dive,if the singer is extolling the crowd to "Get your hands in the air" be advised Don't ! keep your hand firmly on the neck.Another bass of mine strung with flats ;)I'm of a mind for a foam mute and maybe invest in some felt picks. It's one of the major strengths of the HB range,if you fancy trying say a short scale hollow or a Ray type they have decent ones that are affordable. When I fancied trying bass uke,no way I was chancing £400 for a Kala but £100 for the HB one ! Aye that'll do.

Can't believe they're only showing the brown version as a restock.
Very few white turned up as B-stock or deko so if they simply sold out why not order more ?

That's what makes me worry that they will stop producing them. Although, I do love the white, but I also love the brown. Not sure which I'd buy.
