It's my first post so hello everyone I'm buying a bass after some time without playing and it will definitely be HB. But here's my little question: If I take off the pickguard from JB-20 would there be hole around the pickup and for the wires or not. I'm curious because I hate the look of sunburst with white pickguard and love the look of Jaco bass. And don't like fretless so JB-40FL is not an option.

Welcome aboard watlyAfraid I've never had a JB-20 but the JB-75-SB is the same as the JB-40 fretless only it comes with a scratchplate No rout lines,I know they're a third more expensive so probably not what you wanted to hear. Sorry I can't help.

Hi Watly. I have just had a look under the pickguard of my JB-20 (it's been a while since I changed it and couldnt remember) and unfortunately it's not particularly pretty under there. You definitely wont want to use it without the pickguard. I agree with you that the white with sunburst doesnt look good. I have put a 3-ply black one on mine (b/w/b) and I think it improves the look no end. Look down the page for the thread titled 'Standard Series Basses' and you will see a picture of mine there. Hope you like it. Other than the white pickguard and the gaping hole underneath, the JB-20 is a really sound and well put together bass.

Thanks for the welcome guys finally i've landed with PB-20. I like it a lot and finally playing bass after year and a half is awesome rickyv here's question for you, in the thread that you mentioned I saw that you got PB-20 with tortoise pickguard, which doesnt look like HB pickguard (cause tortoise HB looks like crap on thomann photos ) does standard precision pickguard fits or any specific manufacturers or custom made?

Hey watly. You are right, it is not an HB pickguard. To be honest I dont know what make it is. I bought it off a guy on ebay who was selling just that one scratchplate. It was advertised as 'to fit Fender Precision'. To get it to fit my PB-20 I had to do a bit of filing of the plate around the hole for the pickup. Also the screw holes didnt line up properly but hey, the bass cost me £18 so I wasnt bothered about making some additional holes in the body to line up with the replacement scratchplate. Again, I think the tort looks so much nicer than the standard white plate. A black one would also look really good.

One would think so but you cant be sure. I bought a lefty strat pickguard off Thomann for my Harley Benton ST-20. It's not an exact fit - screw holes are different.
