Received my new HB acoustic guitar and as soon I opened the box I saw the truss rod sticking out of the neck somewhat yes I returned the guitar. By the way the tuners were crap which you turn 1/4 and nothing happens and the frets are not leveled. Very disappointing with this purchase. Since Im not buying this guitar I got the money back but I lost the shipping cost. It seems as the low end HB guitars are very much faulty. My ST-20 was very cheap but also came with horrendous fret work and the bridge pickup stopped working after a6 months. They did tell me to return it but I was any way not happy with the single coil pickups and decided to redo it my self. The high end HB guitars seem to be MUCH better quality indeed.

The high end HB guitars seem to be MUCH better quality indeed. I'm not so sure. I have bought 3 HBs so far, a cheaper ST-20 (for my daughter to start learning on), a higher spec TE-70 rosewood telecaster and this week a BigTone archtop, one of their most expensive models (although expensive is a relative term, the BigTone was still cheap for what it is) My experience is that the quality control - in particular fretwork - is consistently average. In my case, the cheap ST-20 had the best fretwork. (I know this because I do my own fret levelling work). The most expensive guitar (the BigTone) had the poorest finish & quality. The price of a HB guitar seems to be determined by the cost of the hardware and the features. Workmanship and quality is the same across the whole range. You might get lucky with a good one, you might not.

Question - you had to pay return shipping charges, even though the guitar was faulty?

No, not the return. They paid for return. But I paid for the original order I first received and since I asked for money back instead of them sending me a new guitar instead I lost that postage money. Which is not fair since it's them sending me a faulty guitar. I hope I make sense

Che
They should be refunding all money paid for the original order including postage. That's the normal procedure. Give them a call tomorrow morning.
It shouldn't cost you anything it's faulty goods they supplied.

Sorry to hear that Che That's a bit of a bummer having to return it to say the least. I'm starting to wonder if I've been really lucky with the two HB guitars I bought I have no complaints with mine at all. I don't expect the fretwork to be top notch at these prices ( I do my own fretwork/polish regardless of brand anyway.) but some of the QC issues I'm seeing is getting a bit much.

Some QC issues are inevitable with Thomann's business model. In order to offer such low prices, they must strip out every possible step in production & distribution.
If these guitars receive any QC check at all in Germany, it's probably no more than a glance inside the box. We, the customers, effectively do the final quality control step ourselves. I suspect it's cheaper for Thomann to absorb the cost of returns, compared to the cost employing more staff to improve quality at the warehouse.

I have got an email from Thomann; I have also complained about the shipment money and will see if I get any response. When I bought my L-450Plus I did asked them before the purchase to check the guitar for fret work and other possible faults and they did do so but they said that it will take 2-3 more days before they can ship it to me and in that case I will not be able to track the order which was ok with me. I got a perfect guitar I should have asked this time too. So you can write a comment to them while buying an instrument in the comment box and you can DEMAND for them to check it before sending it to you (they dont charge extra for this)

I have complained about the missing money for the postage and they said they are sorry for the confusion and paid it back to me so Thumbs Up for Thomann service once again!

Glad to hear you were refunded the shipping costs though it shouldn't have happened in the first place.
Thomann get a lot of respect for their customer care but lets hope they don't forget that as they expand even bigger. It's the combination of good products at great prices along with the customer service that sets them above some other retailers.

I also have one of these and mine is perfect, mine didn't have a scratchplate like the pics on the site but it was no trouble fitting one. With new higher end strings I prefer it to my Epiphone dove.but

Hi, Che! You are right! The low end HB guitars are very foulty. I bought one of them(CLJ 200 The King) and got lots of trouble. You can´t buy a good HB lower than 200.-. I reed a gossip that these cheap guitars are made in another factory and I believe it´s true. But the high end HB whorth far more than it costs.

To be honest I now only look at their year of make and don't want to buy anything made from before year 2013. I think you are right to assume that because the quality level is HUGE it seems. The newer models could be from a different factory indeed.
