Hi,
I have a little practice tube amp (Fame Tube Line Tube 5 Special) and I want to have some effects.
So I was contempülating on buying HB British Truetone, Vintage Overdrive and Digital delay pedals and cables.
But then I found the Boss BR-80 and this would help me in practicing as I wanted to have something for:
* playing along MP3 backing tracks * having something like a virtual band for playing along * included drum computer
And the BR-80 has included effects - so maybe instead of buying the pedals I thought it could be wise to buy the Boss unit.
Does anyone have this in use and could share their experience?
Best Alex

If I'm not mistaken, dodger has one and likes it. As for myself, I've an older Boss BR-600 which I picked up secondhand and I've yet to master all it's complexities. I'm not that impressed with it's guitar effects but it is the 2006 model so I would expect the newer models to be quite a bit better.

Also - if you are looking for an inexpensive multi-effects pedal. I would recommend the Zoom G1on. It has the same processor and model algorithms as it's bigger brothers. Also has a looper and drum backing functions and patches are easy to set up and adjust - I find it a great practice tool. Beware however I'm not sure how it would sound with your small tube amp. I run mine into a keyboard amp (and sometimes even a hifi) which has a much flatter frequency response.

Salteedog is correct - I do have a Boss BR80. I bought mine essentially as a multttrack for recording acoustic and vocals as demos. I discovered the electric guitar effects were so good (to my ears anyway) that I've recorded loads of electric demos as well (probably more than acoustic). I never really use the other functions but I build up tunes from scratch using the built in drums patterns. The multitrack recrder is brilliant.
here's the first instrumental I did the night I got the gadget - the playing is a bit out of time but it will give you an idea of what you can do
All the guitar sounds including the bass are my HB35 plugged into the Boss. I read somewhere else that a fella uses his live instead of pedals and he said he could sit in with any band of any genre with it. There are loads of preset tones for guitar and loads of different drum patterns.

Thanks salteedog and Doger for your quick feedback.
The recording functionality is an added bonus especially via USB into a computer.
I somewhere read that the drum patterns are just available in 4/4 and nothing else. Or was that fixed with a firmware update? At least 3/4 would be nice IMHO.
