Hi folks, I have just installed a set of Vanson locking tuners to my ST70 and have broke at the posts 2 high E and 1 B string when stretching out the strings. I strung up the strings like your supposed to by pulling the string tight then turning the thumb screw to lock it in place before tuning up. I have checked for burrs around the post hole and removed the thumb wheel screws but everything seems smooth and OK. Has anyone else had this annoying problem with this type of tuner and a remedy? Thanks

Maybe you need to file the edges of hole a little with a needle file , the edge might be just sharp enough to damage the steel hence weakening it. It's the only logical answer I can assume .

Thanks wild turkey I think I may lightly file them or sand them with some 800 grit just to make sure. I also read a few threads on other forums tonight that advise not over tightening the thumb screw as it can kink the thinner strings causing them to weaken. Got some spare strings ordered on the way. Thanks

So..my bad 🙈, seems I was over tightening the thumbscrew causing the breakages.

Hi mrdes I can highly recommend these tuners as they are great quality (19:1 gear ratio) and solid compared to the originals that came on the guitar. The stock tuners were ok and held tune but I'm not fond of the modern style tuner heads and prefer the kluson style plus the posts were a bit wobbly which I didn't like. The Vanson tuners have a bit more weight to them and the posts fitted more snugly in the headstock holes also I didn't need to re drill screw holes so it was an easy swap. The only real difference compared to the stock ones is aesthetically the guitar looks even better (to me) and string changing is fast and easy. I plan to buy a 12 string set next as I dread restringing on my Eastwood Classic 12 lol.

I've just fitted a set to mine and they are fine, I will be sure not to overtighten now I've seen this... They are really a superb very well made and of great quality, I doubt many are made better!
