My CLD-30SCM SolidWood arrived today
Wow - 289euros (£217 to me after paypal took their exchange rate cut) what a guitar - fantastic quality - light as a feather (less than 4 pounds in weight - that's about 1.8 kg). Only had it a few hours so I have only given it the once over (quick look) to see if there are any blemishes or faults. It does have a slight blemish on the back (looks like someone picked it up wet) but it's hardly noticeable and there is a slight mark on the top on the upper bout edge (this looks like an over enthusiastic sander) but neither of the marks is anything to worry or bother me.
The lightness of the guitar is really noticeable - it must be at least 0.4kg less than any other guitar I have. The neck is very nice satin (as is the guitar) nice feel at about 44mm at the nut and what feels like a slim taper. The guitar has a very nice setup and an inspection card that details the action height correctly. Nice and lowish but not so low as to take away tone. The tone is - well - new but it has that feel of potentially being very nice and rounded aftr a while. It will take som e time to open up - I'll see in a month or so.
I sold a Sigma OM to buy this guitar and I am glad I did. I have had two other dreadnoughts which I eventually sold. A Martin DX1 and a Recording King all solid Adirondack/mahogany. The Martin was the better sounding guitar of the two and the better made - I found that the RK was a not so well made or finished. This CLD-30SCM SolidWood sounds at least as good as the Martin and is far better made and finished than the RK.
If you are on the lookout for a decent dreadnought at a very low cost you must try this CLD-30SCM SolidWood. If you order from Thomann you cannot lose out as they have a full money back policy
I wrote this 3 hours ago I have since polished the frets, oiled the board and put Elixir Nanoweb 80/20 bronze 12- 53 strings on - it sings. These strings just mellow the sound perfectly. I tried Elixer strings years ago and just could not get on with them - now I think they are fantastic on dreads - I have them on my Texan, Masterbilt AJ-45ME and now this. Three distictively different guitars but all sound fantastic. And all three for well under a grand
