Nice one, this is helpful for me indeed. I never did much setup when I get a guitar. How do you check the nut if its ok?

Nice one, this is helpful for me indeed. I never did much setup when I get a guitar. How do you check the nut if its ok? the string running through the nut should just go slightly over the first fret. it should be the same gap as on the second fret when you play it in the first fret. filing the nut is not for beginners. so check if the intonation is right on the first fret and if you can easily play it,youre fine.

however, if the slot for the nut is too high you will need te right nut file for this. a bad slotted nut will give you constantly tuning issues

If the nut is fine whats the distance in mm from the strings to the first fret? The only filing I did was on my classic guitar and not on the nut but on the bridge saddle which is plastic to lower the extremely high action. Now it plays beautifully

I almost forgot to ask you mate I saw you in the video cutting down new Daddario strings, why is that? Were they rusty? I still use the original Daddarios on my L-450Plus and I have bought that guitar ... (counting) ... 5 moth ago and do play the guitar every day yet still to my ears they sound good enough to be changed, and I also like the sound of older strings they lack that harshness of the new strings (brrrrrr).

Ok...to get the first question.. you should see the nut as a zero fret. That means the distance between string (laying on the nut) and the first fret should/can be the same distance as when you push the string down in the first fret and measure the distance between string and second fret. Its maybe 1mm. The rule here is....when it buzzes youve filed too far and got a problem. if it feels hard to push down on the first fret nut needs to be filed. Do you want a picture of it from my guitars?would be no problem so...second question. some people stated tuning problems with the factory strings and i got that problem myself once. Im not sure why that was...i suspect they put a protective film on the strings or something...but im not sure. The strings get on the guitar in the factory in korea...they will ship it to germany....then they will ship it to you. If you want your guitar as best as possible (sound, playability etc.) invest the 5 Euro and change the strings and do the full setup. PS:Im a guitar nerd...i cannot sleep if i got a guitar standing there that isnt in the best condition/playability i can transform it to. If you got no problems and they feel nice and sound good, you can of course play them till they are dead. cheers mate!

OK thanks! I remember the strings I've got on the HBO600, they were clearly rusty and old looking big time but the ones I got on the L-450+ were very nice and shiny and Im telling you they dont go out of tune even now and they sound fine to my (untrained) ear. Im maybe not a nerd but am a cheapskate and if I get a 5 euro strings already on the guitar it is just WAY TOO painful for me to just kill them on the spot I also have very old strings on my classical guitar (Daddario) and they sound more mellow than the new ones. I love the sound of the older nylon for example. So I play them until they go to RIP (angel)
