Your guess is as good as mine, its going to be fun tomorrow unless I can master the Val Doonigan posture! There is this misconception amongst guitar teachers that one needs to first learn acoustic guitar before one is to learn playing on an electric guitar. In truth we speak of 2 different instruments. You need a new teacher.

Yes I think you are right, when I got back into guitar I obviously read up on what instrument to get and for most parts the advice was get the type of guitar to suit what you want to play.Obviously don't get a flying v if you want to play flamenco lol.
I'll ask today why he thinks I should have an acoustic. I must say he has been very good working out alternative voicings for chords that require four fingers into versions I can do with just 3 fingers. But on the other hand he keeps hinting at singing which is a definite no no for me lol

I use mostly voicing for 2-3 fingers. I also use whole bar chords but love the sound of 3 fingers chords.
I think slide playing would be perfect for you and it sounds awesome. Also think about eBow!

Ceramic and glass create less scrapey noises particularly after the slide has taken a bit of a bashing. But I like scrapey noises. Might give the glass a go, Teacher not impressed with the D120 as bottom string a tad sharp at 12 fret, but then he sells expensive guitars so to be expected. He has given me a Beatles song to learn! I believe this is punishment (for not buying guitar from him) as he knows I Don't like the beatles!

If bottom E is a tad sharp at the 12th this is an intonation issue and it should increasingly get sharper higher again. Intonation adjustment is quite limited on an acoustic but there is some saddle shaping that can be done to move the take off point to the front or back edge. Saddle height will also affect intonation as will string thickness and the truss rod setup. Particularly on the bottom E. How high is the action at the 12th fret on the bottom E and how does the saddle look? What is the relief like on the neck? And, of course, what are the strings like. Some will (rarely but I've had them) not intonate well. And finally, are you likely to be playing bottom E at the 12th fret? Does this Beatles piece require it? I suspect not. Using the ruler i have handy its about 3-3.5mm at 12th fret the action does look a little high (its peeing down here so I'm going down the shed to dig out feeler gauges at moment). I have had a straight edge on the frets and the look even he did say it had a couple of high frets but I can't find them (but I'm no expert). I believe the saddle (compensated type) could be a tad high? My eye is quite good (bricklayer by trade) I'm usually spot on level and plumb. I'm quite sure I could manage adjusting the saddle but I really need to get a proper guitar ruler/intonation thing whaterever its called.

If I was a music teacher I'd ask what the student liked and show them how to play at least one song by that artist - you stay far more interested than learning stuff you don't like. Although I've probably become a better player from learning loads of songs I don't like (have to learn them for gigs).
