Hi guys,
I've heard many good things about Roswell's active pups, so I had to try them. And as a owner of a Sc custom passive, I couldn't imagine a better guitar to give them the best possible chance te convince me. I have recorded yesterday a short demo, everything played with this SC custom active - I've called her White Goddess ^^ in several configurations.
In the details : EQ Always FLAT Clean sound intro played on neck pickup first riff played on hi gain chan (OD1 on my blackstar ID 60 tvp, 6L6 emulated sound) second and third riffs played both on hi-gain chan and on crunch chan, adding HB vintage OD with gain at 8 o'clock lead played with my personal lead setup (EQ not flat).

In the next days, I will record comparisons between this White Goddess and some of my EMG guitars. Unfortunately, it won't be identical guitars, but it will however give an idea of some differences between EMGs and Roswell.

Hi guys, back again with some comparison between Roswell active pups vs EMG 81/60 and EMG JH set. In a perfect world, those pickups would be installed on the same guitar. Unfortunately, I don't have 3 or even 2 Harley Benton SC Custom so I can switch the pups, sorry. Yet all 3 guitars are made with mahogany. And there are differences that comes from the pups only. Here's what I've felt and heard : - Roswell pups have a higher output level. You have to play with the volume pot to have a completely clean sound. On both EMG 81/60 and EMG JH, I don't have to. - Due to the higher output level, the sound is a bit more dirty on high gain, whereas it remains clean and sharp on EMGs - Roswell neck pup is even louder than the bridge. In comparison, the EMG 81 (B) is louder than the 60 (N) and the JH bridge is louder than the JH neck. - Due to the guitar (HB Sc Custom) but not only, the tone is very bassy on Roswell. I say not only cos' I also have a SC custom passive, which is also very bassy, but not that much. Emg 81 tends to be very agressive and screaming on trebble and more bassy on EMG60. EMG JH are warmer, have more mediums than both other sets and don't scream, but they shout. So now, I let you listen my short playlist https%3A//soundcloud.com/user-492302877/sets/active-pickups-battle-roswellC U Taurash

Final post on this file, just to make a conclusion : this guitars plays very well, tuners are fine (grover), the neck is neither too thin nor too thick, very versatile and allows you to feel easy for rythm and lead parts. The white color looks to me less pleasent than the black. Here, the surrounding of the body and the neck, which is a creamy yellow color, doesn't fit very well with the brillant white of the guitar. On the black satin finish, it looks way better, but that's a matter of taste. Roswell active pups are not as good as EMG, but they're good anyway, and way way better than active HBZ you can find on the SC 1000 or the EX 84. The sound is very dark and bassy, even more than on the passive SC custom. For 228€, I can not imagine a better active pups guitar. An equivalent of it, with another shape, could be a Schecter Demon 6. The Duncan Design HB 105 - I know them well, cos I have a Schecter demon 7 - are pretty good, but less sharp than EMGs or even Roswell. Pretty funny is the fact that they sound like passive pups because of this little lack of precision. However, the duncan design have a lower output level, which doesn't force you to pull the volume pot down if you want a complete clean sound. But the Schecter demon 6 is sold between 450 and 500€ - and you won't find it on Thomann. So, for those who want to discover the active pups sound, this SC custom active is a really good choice. Hope this will help those who are interested in this guitat C U Taurash

Thanks for the review Taurash, much appreciated! I personally have no interest in active or humbuckers but some like Banana would maybe like to read this. He keeps bugging me to buy a CST with humbuckers all the time

Yet, humbuckers with split are making a good job when I go to funk, reggae or blues. By the way @chedapapa, which HB guitar is your favorite ? Well if this helps Banana that's fine And as far as the CST24t is concerned, it's already in my wishlist

For a while my favorite was the TE-90QM with P90's but then I sold it (stupid me). Now its the ST-62MN Black (modded with The Roadhouse 7 way G&L harness and Ironstone Silver pickups).
My new TE-70BP is awesome sounding unplugged (still trying to find good pickups for it) and it sustains for ages. Mega playable guitar. Wish it had a belly and arm cut for more comfort.

Those P90's are really worth it ? To be honest, last time I played a single coil guitar, it was a fender strat squier and really, it's just not my stuff. But these P90 make me curious. Do you think a metalhead like me could enjoy it ? The TE 70BP looks really nice ! As far as pickups are concerned, well sorry that I can't help you, the only single coil I know are EMG passive... Don't think they would suit you.

Did someone say CST-24T? Thomann, y u no give us CST-24T Active I think I have said that name... The guitarist's equivalent for Beetlejuice ? If I say it twice more, it will appear at my home ? Your idea's good, Banana, you should tell Thomann directly. I will soon order my cst24T. I can only see and hear people sound the praise of this model, so I wanna know why And if she suits me, she will receive a pair of Dragonfire Humbuckers
