I've got some money left, and I have always thought about expanding my musical abilities, so...? Start with bass? It's pretty close to guitar! I think. (angel)

The only things that actually come close are the tuning of the strings and chord progressions. It requires a completely different mindset from a guitar because of the function a bass has to fulfill within music - together with the drummer you're the engine of any music piece. Go for it!! Come over to the low side.

Any bass is good for metal/hardrock, it all depends on the player what he gets out of it. But more serious, this bass should be okay. Looks like it comes with single coils, you might need to do some shielding because these type of single coils are notorious for picking up hum. I'm not familiar with this specific bass but all the specs look okay for this price, there might be people here on the forum who own one or have the five string version. If you go for this one also order a set of new strings - Warwick 46200 M Red Label, cheap and outstanding strings, most of the time I use those myself - The ones that come stock on HB basses are in my opinion utter crap.

Another option would be the B-450. Do you all think it would be better to save money for 2 weeks and buy the 450 or just buy the 250?

Personally I would go for the B-450 and add two DPDT switches to make the humbuckers switch between series/single/parallel mode. This mod gives you a lot more sound possibilities, including the single coil sound the B-250 has.

I just discovered that my Digitech RP70 can make my guitar sound bass-like It only sounds bass like on the FX called Digitech Whammy and when on the level 3 (H3) then I add some fuzz to it. I will have to record this once I buy a software and an interface. It obviously isn't a bass but it sure is usable for looping and recording samples and also for some bass playing practice.

Go for it, I did & I love noodling around on a bass. There are just too many fantastic bass lines out there not to own one.

This is always a good video for the "Best Bass for Metal" threads.
And of course you should come over to the low side, but be prepared to not return!
