I've finished to assembly thomann DIY Telecaster Kit. It took two hours a day for two week to finish the test of the guitar. The boby it's now unpainted and I will reserve to paint it in the next future:the guitar was build to test the parts and for setting action, intonation and pickups heights. The body is very nice: one piece of basswood(?), one natural colour for all the body (I soon will post pictures of this tele). The neck was quite perfect out the box: it only needed a trussrod setting with the strings in tension. The guitar now for me it's perfectly setted with a good action (1.40 mm E low, 1.30 mm E High), good intonation and very nice sound (especially bridge pickup). The output of neck pickup it's low volume but it sounds good if boosted (no problem with a trasparent boost in the input of the pedalboard's chain). The bridge pickup it's awesome. It's my first Kit and I'm very satisfied: I waited 30 years before assembly a guitar and now I've my awesome cheap Tele that sounds it's songs for me!

I got it right after spraying the the third coat on my tele so maybe you are more accomplished than me (or with much better endurance). You might make more coatings before buffing.

This is the natural color of the body. I think to use only TRUE oil for finishing

This looks good The wood doesn't need to hide behind anything. You didn't cut the headstock… This is the thing that would worry me most if I were to build such a thing. I wouldn't know how to work the headstock. Then of course, the next problem would be the choice of shape, but that's something I would actually look forward to. Cut it straight and call it a Macmull? I suppose they do that because they are recycled Squier.

Nicely done roberto, it's a nice piece of wood, I think you are right using true oil as a finish. It should look very good. 👍👍

I think that looks better than my waxed DIY Tele.
Thoroughly good job!

Ah ah, I have the same problem I don't know how to cut the headstock ... but I think that I will have time to decide the cutting, some months will pass for disassembling the guitar.

I àm sure there are some tele headstock profiles in PDFS that you can print actual size and make a tracing. Other than that draw a straight line from one end to the other and chop like Macmull do.

Im not sure you can use Oil on wood treated with Wood Sealers which I think is the case with HB DIY bodies. Maybe if you sand the wood a bit so to remove the sealer layer , then oil will be sucked into the wood. That 1 piece Basswood looks VERY nice!

I got from the web the PDF with tele headstock and spec. for neck and body so maybe i will use it or cut like Macmull

I'm thinking to sand the body a little bit and treat it with TRUE OIL. I like this piece of wood ... hoping to leave it with its natural color also after the oil treatment. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Im sure it will get a bit darker once oil gets into the wood.
