Are there no 2nd hand Bugera all tube amps over there you seem to be investing stuff and energy into a box claiming to be able to sound tube like instead of just getting one of these Bugeras (the cheapest all tube amp over here 2nd hand). Then again , you just might be enjoying this tube tone hunting It would certainly drive me nuts.

Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

I do look at Bugeras from time to time Che. And really like them. What I'm trying to find is a preamp that does the trick on all 5 of my current amps to save me lugging amps here there and everywhere. Plus one preamp tube is a lot cheaper to replace than a whole row of them! . I can see me jumping for a Bugera at some point though. Trouble is they don't stick to the same power tubes across their range so I often need to decide between too small a speaker or too dirty a power tube. They are nearly always 'collection only' on ebay and a few hundred miles away. You have the V22 don't you? That's the size I'm most interested in but worry about the power tubes for chimey clean sounds. If it can't do them then I can't get rid of other amps and I won't be able to move for big black cabinets. I do keep reading a lot of negativity for Bugera valves too but that may just be snobbishness. This Valve Monster has a Bugera tube in it. If I do swap it for a JJ and it makes any kind of difference I'll be sure to let you know.

I’m getting no noise and nice dynamics, I’m just using it as a booster with a smidgeon of gain.

There is a V22 about 120 miles away at the moment for £175 @chedapapa . But it has a blue Turbosound speaker, a red light and no 'Infinium' on it. Good condition and a footswitch but would you think 'stay away'? Also, look at the way the speaker is wired. Is that the usual setup? I have the V55 largest of the V-series. It has 6L6 and that V22 has EL84's. Mine is the Blue light which is the oldest version and works like charm. The one in your photo is the version after the blue light and just before the Infinium. Those Blue Turbosound speakers sound nice, had it in my old V5 watts. I wouldn't worry about not getting a clean sound through these. Just use the Clean channel and off you go. Also chaniging tubes is like once in a blue moon mate and preamp tubes dont cost much. Power tubes cost more.

Just to add; yes that speaker cable connection looks fine.

That's into the Laney though, right MartinB? Maybe that's where the dynamics are coming from? It is, turns the clean channel into a slightly edgy break up kind of sound where I can vary pick attack or volume to go from totally clean to OD’d

It’s a “single ended” EL84. I don’t really know much about amp stuff though.

Im actually eyeing a Laney CUB 12R on the 2nd hand market! Would like an all tube amp that breaks up easier as my Bugera is more of a clean beast.

I’ve heard quite mixed things about the Cub series @chedapapa

Mostly people say that it’s great, some complain about the reverb. You get a small amount of people saying they didn’t like it.
I haven’t tried a cub, but I think it’d suit your needs.
