Hi everyone, I just received my first harley benton a few days ago and I really like it. The overall build quality is just great. However when i first received the guitar, the action was quite high. When i lowered the bridge, I noticed that i could only bring it down a little. So the bridge is now fully down on the trebble side but I still got an action around 1,4 to 1,3mm on the 12th fret. The neck seems completely straight for me. I will try to add some photos later to show you guys what I mean.
For now the action height seems okay for my liking. It's just the fact that i can't lower it anymore in the future as the bridge can't go lower. Have you guys ever had such a problem on the SC customs or an harley benton in general or did i just recieve a bad guitar?
Thanks for your answers
Best regards

Any chance you have a nut cut too high? How is the action on 1st fret?

As a reference, strings on my SC-450 Plus are 18 mm away from the top when leaving the saddles. Action is 1.15-1.26 mm at 12th fret.

As far as i can remeber the action on the first fret was quite low. I'll check that again later

Neck angle could've used literally like 1 extra degree. Gotoh bridge (using stock bridge's studs) helps a little, but mine's still completely bottomed out. I thought this would do it, but unfortunately the HB's stock bridge is more or less (less really due to the saddles quality) a pretty close match to the gotoh.

Thanks "vanv". Sounds like this might be a general thing on the SC customs. My action at the first fret is around 0.25mm.

First, set the neck properly. Measure the amount of bow, don't just simply look at it. The should be a small bow at the middle of the neck. I'm sorry, but I don't have the numbers for setting SC Custom. To check the nut, depress stings at the third fret and measure the gap beetween the bottom of every string and the top of the first fret. There should only about a hair of the gap. After all this is checked, than you can set the action right. I have a SC 450 plus, with Gotoh bridge and string hight, at the bridge is about 15mm, with action on the 12th fret 1,25-1,50mm. And I cannot go much lower on the bridge. I think that SC 450 plus neck to body angle is a little less than on Gibson Les Paul guitars. I could be the case also with SC Customs.

I think that SC 450 plus neck to body angle is a little less than on Gibson Les Paul guitars. I could be the case also with SC Customs. That bridge is 3 mm lower than mine, which indicates a serious discrepancy in neck angle from one SC-450 Plus to the next. These numbers cannot be directly compared to an SC-Custom, the shape of the top being possibly different, but such a variance would explain issues.

I have different bridge than the stock one, so it fits a litle different regarding depth of saddles and bridge posts. But if I compare neck to body angle with my other LP type guitars, it seems a little less of an angle.
