I sold the HB Dynamic as I couldn't justify buying new pickups as the neck was too thin for my taste!

I don't know but I would presume the kids learn similar from the games. Albeit modern warfare history such as "Nam" and the recent Middle East wars/conflicts. Unfortunately a lot of people think that Lord Raglan is just the name of the boozer they drink in. Unfortunately hollywood also rewrites a lot of historical fact into fiction. I like a good story/film but not when the truth is bent to fit a more dubious narrative. Much like the 70's myth that everything made in Japan was crap. Easy to ignore their historical sword making and woodworking expertise or the fact they built the biggest and most powerful Battleship ever to sail. It's quite ironic the Chinese now have that unfortunate tag. Check out Stewart Lee for a chuckle on Braveheart:

I think maybe there are those who fear making a bad bad job of a fret level if they have never done it before. This is understandable. You can buy a new neck cheaply from China to practice on. It will probably need leveling anyway. Here is an example. Current price US $26.19

Paging intenselycalm who if I'm not mistaken actually did build his own fret-press. I didn't make my fret press, but I do have one.
It is a 1/2 ton arbor press, with a chuck that holds brass inserts which press down on the fret.
I also do some hammering work, but if I can help it, I use the press as much as possible now.
There were a couple areas the press is difficult to use, such as the transition from neck to the heal. Some areas can be blocked and padded, but sometimes it is easier and quicker to grab the little hammer.
The drill press I have isn't really made for "press" work, as I can create a LOT of downward thrust to get the frets in the wood. The drill press table isn't designed for "pressing" parts together and this can put a lot of stress on the table connection point. The cast table of light duty drill press could snap. Hasn't happened to me yet, but it has for other people. That's mainly why I went to the Arbor Press, it is also easier to prop the guitar in the correct position. On the drill press you need an extra shelf or table, or some extra hands to hold things.
When hammering, I use is a Brass/Nylon hammer. I don't use a "steel" faced hammer, as it will likely dent or mar the fret surface easily. The nylon face of the hammer works well and causes little harm. Of course I do occasionally realize I'm using the brass side, then I spin the head of hammer and continue in nylon mode. The brass side can be easily reshaped and polished smooth to reduce potential damage from misguided strikes (pilot error).
My opinion on when to refret - whenever you want to. Ha, yes I'm sick.
I think I've refretted most of my HB's by now. Not that they needed new frets, but largely the fretboards needed to be made true.
This has really made me aware how important a perfectly sanded/radiused/leveled fretboard is. If the radius and leveling of the fretboard is good, fretting is a dream. Little to no leveling may be required. This also depends on the quality of the fretwire being used.
I'm rather hooked on Jescar fretwire at the moment. I've had very good luck with their wire to date.
I haven't posted much lately, as I'm fixing and building some tools, making jigs.... getting ready to do a couple guitar builds and YouTube video series soon. Sadly, making videos in a whole other career on top of making a guitar. So, you guys will have the opportunity to watch me screw stuff up, then figure out how to fix it.
Should be entertaining - for you.

It has been a long time but I used to hammer them in. An Arbor Press looks ideal but maybe not so practical if you do not have a bench or intend to only work on one or two of your own guitars. These look interesting. I have not tried them but we can buy these on ebay for about 20 euros. We will need a caul insert to match the radius of the board but these can be bought for about 5 euros each or less per piece when you buy a full set. Or just buy a hammer
