Hi guys, Just quickly, anyone bothered splitting the Roswell Humbuckers in the SC 550? I also have the CST 24 that has a coil split - and I do find it useful. So, with a
suspected volume drop, how hard is it to do the job, and does anyone have
a schematic they'd recommend..? Cheers Smokey

It is fairly easy but you'll need to replace the volume pots with push-pull 500K log/audio/A (unless you want to go linear/B for whatever reason). For the Tobacco Flame, the pick-ups are the same LAF as on the SC-450 Plus, for which the schematics and colour codes below apply. The Paradise Flame has the HAF pick-ups but I would assume the colour code is the same. The schematic on the left side is the coil split you're asking for. That on the right replaces the split with a switch of both coils in parallel (rather than merely shorting one of them), which improves the high frequencies further and keeps the hum-cancelling effect.

I would not split humbuckers with around 8K as the single coil will be too weak. If you want good splittable humbucker go for those around 12-15K. I had those splittable Roswells and even Wilkinson and they sound too thin and the volume of course also drops a lot!

Thin can be useable though. Imagine them into the acoustic sim that salteedog found on his Katana. Might be very handy live too. I need fat a full bodied tone The Kills have such and still it works very well LIVE but I need it in my home studio, nice fat and warma and sizzly and punchy.

Hi there Leo, Would you happen to have the schematic for the Harley Benton CST 24 in "series/parallel switching by any chance? I'd like to mod that guitar with its two humbuckers. 1 volume and tone, and pickup selector...

Would you happen to have the schematic for the Harley Benton CST 24 in "series/parallel switching by any chance? I don't but I suppose this is what you want and this is what you have. I assume your coil split works on both pick-ups with one push-pull knob. Parallel switching requires more wiring and cannot be done this way so you need two push-pulls and you have the advantage of selective switching. I like the sound of a split or parallel neck together with a "full" series bridge. Make sure you replace your volume pot with a push-pull of the same type. I suppose what you have in there is a log/audio/A 500 KOhm. It's written on the top of the pot, the part facing the wood, so you have to unscrew it to verify. It will probably say "A500K".

Hi Leo, That's fabulous thanks! It's exactly what I want! Yes, my existing coil split does effect both pickups, so I get the need for a push pull tone knob. I think I'll put 2 new push pulls of the CST, or Bourns variety - and go from there. I have had the existing Push/Pull fail a number of times recently, so I figure it's faulty anyway... Thanks again for your prompt reply and and info!
