Hi guys I'm considering changing my pickups in my HB PB-20 SBK. I play mainly heavy rock and metal, but also some classic rock and blues. I use a mix of Galien Kruger amp sims and a 60w redsub bass amp for live stuff. Is there anything I need to be aware of when looking for new pups ? Will most p-bass pickups fit ok ? I will probably get them installed by a local guitar shop, but would be open to doing them myself if it's not too tricky Thanks Matthew

There's a possibility pickup pole piece and strings won't line up. That's no big deal, doesn't affect the tone and it's fairly common to see on Fenders Fitting a P-bass pickup is a doddle, it's soldering 2 wires, if you don't own a soldering iron there's a cold cure solder glue. Sometimes the cover can be a different size, pop the covers off your old pickups and put them on your new pickups. Beats trying to trim a scratchplate. You might find the foam underneath is too much/too little. It's foam, trim or add some more. If you want a real killer of a P-bass pickup I can't recommend these highly enough. guitarpartscenter.eu/en_US/p/ENTWISTLE-PBXN-BK/6131Entwistle PBXN will drop kick anything by Duncan into the next universe. Can't speak for EMG, I've avoided them since the mid 80's One thing about the Entwistles is they a wee bit taller. Dab of white paint on bottom of pole pieces, place in the bass, remove then take a drill and bore a 4mm hole where the white dots are. Poles drop in the holes and job's a guid'un.

Hi KB Thanks for that, think I'll have to have a go at this then. Cheers for the recommendation of the Entwistle's, this could well be what I go for. Great price too Would Wilkinson's be much of an upgrade on the stock ones ? Thanks Matthew

Same bass, same strings, same pots and same settings. Entwistle Neos Duncan 1/4 lb'ers

most any pbass pickup should drop right in. My go-to for the past couple years has been the EMG Geezers. I've put them in three basses and they've been great every time (obviously subjective;) )
