All the DC have Vintage-darker sounding pickups. The SC-550 PAF is the only one in that list with hot and crisp sounding Alnico V pickups, to emulate "Slash Sound". You can make the SC-550PAF sound darker but its hard to make the others sound so crisp as the SC-550PAF. The other SC-550 tobacco burst also has vintage pups I think.
To sum up; if you like darker sounding sound do go with vintage pups if not than I suggest the SC-550PAF.
I am playing my SC-550PAF all the time now and to be honest I like the vintage pups on my L-450Plus (now known as SC-450Plus) less and less and I think I will be changing those pickups for P90 at some stage.

freekingprawn I made a short comparison between my SC-550PAF and L-450Plus. I didnt do clean sound because in all fairness those who need clean get an acoustic instead Description on Sound Cloud; https%3A//soundcloud.com/papa-dusko/comparison-between-harley-benton-sc550-and-l450

I didnt do clean sound because in all fairness those who need clean get an acoustic instead Description on Sound Cloud; https%3A//soundcloud.com/papa-dusko/comparison-between-harley-benton-sc550-and-l450 Amazing. Good work Che. It seems - at least to my ears - the SC-550 sounds brighter. I'm used to bright sounding guitars since I've mainly been playing single coils from the beginning - I own a Fender Aerodyne Strat for some time now that is a bit hotter and more round sousing that a normal strat, but it is still single coils sounding . Wonder what's the difference between the SC-550 and the SC-Custom, sound wise. I'm searching for a bright open sound that I can turn darker if I want to. And humbukers seems a good way of doing that. So, in your opinion the SC-550 - or SC-Custom will allow me to reproduce this kind of sound [never minding the obvious dirt going on]?

I think you can get all this sound with the vintage pups since all is very dark and very much warm/round. So I guess SC-Custom would be my choice for this (kind of Black Sabbath) sound.
