Hi guys. I'm fairly new to the forum but I've been lurking for quite a while. I recently bought an Epiphone Les Paul but I really don't like it at all. It sounds like a classic Les Paul but feels cheap. I'm a bit spoiled as my main guitar of choice is a Chapman ML1, which feels fantastic and plays really well. To the point: I still want a Les Paul and I've been recently impressed by Henning's HB reviews on Youtube. I know this is a matter of opinion but I wondered whether or not you good folks could give me the skinny on a few HB models. I'm looking for that Les Paul sound on a budget! I'm stuck between the following models: Harley Benton SC-450 Plus HB Vintage Series
Harley Benton SC-550 Paradise Amber Flame
Harley Benton SC-500 BK Vintage Series
Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome aborad friend Man, I just entered the Chapman give away ghost fret competition on Facebook would love a Chapman! I have both the SC-550PAF and the L-450Plus (now called SC) The SC-550PAF is more of a Slash sounding LP, The L-450Plus is more of that classic sound I think you are after. The SC-550 Tobacco Burst also has the same pups as the L-450Plus so does the new SC-Custom LP from Harley Benton but do come with Grover tuners as a plus. Also these guitars are fab for modding so putting in there 2 Gibson pups of your choice also would work well.

I posted this comparison on Soundcloud for another of our member but note I dont play subtle blues but rather attack those strings strongly;

I never played original LP so cant say exact. If by classic you mean more of a vintage warm sound then yes the Wilkinson MWCHB.
Also the neck pickup is usable if I first set up the amp EQ for it and after that I adjust the bridge pickup with the tone/volume on the guitar, usually turning it down on the Tone to about 7. I say this because there are those who don't like the neck pickup and Im sure its because they set up the amp EQ for the bridge pup on full volume and tone first, and of course the neck pup will sound muddy that way.
Another thing since you are so happy with Chapman is the neck feel. Chapman is as far I know equipped with a modern C shape neck right? And it has modern sounding pickups. Now the neck on these Harley Benton LPs is on the vintage side, meaning thicker as well as with a lacquer coat which can get in a way of fast playing (of course I read sanding the lacquer down can remedy this).
Hope this helps! Did you listen to my recording? Which sound appeals more to your ear? What genre do you play?

To my ear the HB450 sounds warmer and more vintage, which is the sound I'm looking for. I'm looking to play more blues, hence I'm looking to get a classic LP sound - as a consequence, speed isn't an issue for me. I'm going to leave the shredding to my ML1.
