Has anyone converted from passive to active? If so, what pre did you use and did you have make any mods to accommodate the pre and battery?

Nothing wrong with the Artec preamps, I've used them myself but I'd recommend Tone Monsters from Guitar Fuel. www.guitarfuel.com/sbk-series-preamps.htmlFor starters the Tone Monsters have less noise than the Artec. The 2 volume, 1 tone on the PJ HTR limit choices but this can be overcome, moving the jack socket to the edge of the body allows a 4 knob preamp option. Hide your batteries, Tone Monsters can run at 9v or 18v, under the scratchplate. You don't need to be as precise hiding them there as you will cutting a battery box into the back.
