Hi, I have the intention to start playing bass. Would love to learn playing seventies/eighties funk/soul/disco. I have limited my choice between those models:
Harley Benton B-450LH BK Progressive Series Harley Benton JB-75MN LH SB Vintage Series
So please if any can give me some advice (pros en cons) between those two.
gr.Marcel

I agree JB-75 is a great bass but too heavy. I have one and also a PB-20 and the PB-20 is the one I grab most often.

Many bass players come up with many reasons to avoid a shorty, personally I don't agree with any of them, I love the Shorty P

The only things I wondered about JAC was the fact that you are avoiding getting used to the stretch of a full length bass and the possible difficulty in sourcing strings. The short reach is a deal breaker for me. I find it uncomfortable with the left elbow scrunched into my side, gives me fatigue of the posterior fiber. No good for the record breaking time I spend play low G or A. Getting strings to fit is a doddle, most will do. Solution is flip the bass over and fit a 2nd bridge I'll explain further. You'll need one of those "Quick Release" style bridges and some bits of tape 4" long. Start a bit tape at the rear of your existing bass and wrap it round the body, passed the strap button. This gives you a position to mount your 2nd bridge. Looks better if you recess the 2nd bridge. When you come to string your bass. Anchor the ball end to the 2nd bridge, pull it over the body, feed through the other bridge as normal. Bingo, you've just shortened a 34" scale string to 30" without cutting it Got the idea from Rob Allen, though he uses a custom plate.

That's a neat solution to the string length problem kodiakblair . So it's a sort of stringthrough+ using that custom plate? Aye though mind I can't take credit for it. Another solution is this. Though there's limited same of the PB-20 shorty so I suggested rear mount for the 2nd bridge. Traveler Guitars use a similar method, they rear mount the tuners instead of the bridge. Scale length is already dealt with by the existing bridge, all thats needed is a method to take up the excess. Could be something dead simple like 4 pins you hook the ball ends on. travelerguitar.com/pages/bass

Thanks all for the imput. I have chosen for the: Harley Benton JB-75MN LH SB Vintage Series and the bass received last monday. The weight of the bass is fine, not heavy as mentioned and what I've also heard in some Youtube vlogs. The weight is even less than my TE-52 guitar. This evening I will weigh the JB-75

Good to hear it. Maybe they are making them lighter now or perhaps you lucked out with a light one. Mine is just over 5Kg weight compared to my TE-52 of about 4Kg. Either way if you are comfortable with it then all is good.

The weight of the JB-75 is in between 4.5~5 kg whereas the tele-52 is 4 kg so TE is lighter, not expected, shall be the overall balance which is better for the JB-75
