Not many 12 string players around, it seems. But that's not stopping me .
still in the box. remember that feeling of anticipation.
warmed up to room temp. (I bought this in December.) A nice little jewel.
Yep. minor truss rod adjustment. strings off, and before the new strings went on I got out my radiused block and went over the frets, and fret ends.. all very very minor, polished them up and new ernie ball .008s on. You may notice I got rid of both white pickguards and added gloss black underneath.. with smaller knobs. easier to adjust, they were close for the larger ones.
Review wise.. string spacing was off a bit.. (see my other thread) but that was it.
Tuners have worked just fine and still do.
Neck stayed straight and true.
Adjusted pickups, removed bridge cover.
adjusted bridge.
(all adjustments were really very small.. more personal than anything!)
Paint is good, very nice finish. (kinda made me wish I had gotten the CS instead of the BK.
Added some straplocks.
I have not changed the pots or switch. They all work just fine, so .. maybe later if I get the urge.
Wiring is solid.
I think it was 310.00 shipped from Germany. And the one point here that I'll put up against the Rickenbacker.
WIDER neck. Easy to play.
With those .008s on it I took only about three days to get used to the double string pressures.
Fingerboard left a bit of black on my fingertips with the original strings on it, but after I did the fret work
a bit of Dunlop fretboard spray and light elbow grease.. excellent.
It's light and surprisingly well balanced.
Pickups? Well, first off, it's hard to compare to a rick.. different type pickup for sure. Also the strings are opposite.
Ricks have the low string first, then the higher strings. A different sound for sure.
All I can say is jangle aplenty. Really rocks on all the old 60's tunes. Also this thing is a monster with a lot of overdrive or
distortion. I'm wondering if any metal guys ever used a 12.
Happy I bought it, you bet.
I run it most often through the deluxe (two 12AX7 two 6V6GT, 15 watts, Eminence Cannabis Rex 12" combo), with just a compressor.
when I want to have some efx I use my somewhat dated, but I maintain it's very good!, Digitech RP500.
Compression, chorus, reverb... excellent.
I also use tight delay now and then, about as often as I use the overdrive (lots of that!)
Great fun. Money well spent. I'm old now, but if I were still gigging, yep.. one of these would be great to have along with my strat or other guitar.
I have to think that whatever might be 'not so good' about one of these, assuming they are sometimes not as good as mine, they would be easily adjusted
and a great addition to anyones collection.
