I'm waiting for the PB-20 plain black model to come back in stock at Thoman so I can use it to build a customised P bass. I chose this model because unlike other PB copies for the price it has a (semi) hardwood body (poplar) and a maple neck so it should be a nice balanced weight. I've ordered a custom pickguard, see below. I'm not expecting the holes to line up but I can fill the old holes and drill new ones. Maybe I will need to remove some material to get the best fit but am happy to work with a small grinding drill to do that. I want to put in Tonerider TRP1 pickups, which are standard P bass size, Does anyone know if they will drop in okay or will further modification be required? Also any other ideas for upgrades that will make a difference without costing too much?

You should replace pots and the whole electronic wiring with proper ones - I like Bourns Mini Pots: www.musikding.de/Bourns-Poti-16mm-250k-log-gerilltMine is not very well balanced but nothing a good bass strap couldn´t solve. And replacing the tuners with lightweight ones seems atm too much costs for my liking.

Really ? whereas my JB75 is a miracle of comfort..... as good as any Stratocaster
Nothing to change on you PB to settle the TRP1 in. Eventually the wiring could differ if the the number of cable is not the same, but it is not a challenging task.
And yes I agree to Alex advice, you'll never be wrong changing the electronics for better parts, but you do not need to do it immediately, all the more than it is so easy to access to it

Sorry, I was referring to the PB Shorty model - I just noticed that the TO is waiting for the "regular" PB.
But the Tonerider fit very well in the Shorty version so I would expect the same for the longscale model.
