Hi there!, I love my 5eb but I find the preamp could use a mid control especially since it has a humbucker, as well as be a little bit better. I'm ok giving up the series/parallel switch if necessary. Aside from defretting a bass, or replacing a tuner, this will be my first real "mod" . What would you're recommendations be? Also i'm going into this thinking a jazz bass "drop-in" would be able to work for this bass. ideally i wouldn't want to spend more than $200 if possible. Thank you!

Depending on where you live one of those options is easier to get:
Noll Preamps (https://www.noll-electronic.de/bass-electronics/) - those are very good preamps - if you life in Europe they should be easy to get - I had the TCM-3 and found the preamp to be very good - if you want to really "shape" the sound probably the PM version with parametric mids could be a good option
East Preamps (https://www.east-uk.com/product-category/universal-cavity-mount/) - also quite good reviews, never had one though - should be also easy to get in the US - the UNI-PRE 4 should be interesting
