What got me interested in this model initially, is my current P90 Jones ...
I wanted a 24" scale length, P90s and a hardtail bridge. I knew of only one guitar that met all those specs, and it is a overpriced MIM Fender Player Mustang 90.
At $800, I considered it out of the question, not because I consider $800 too much for a guitar, just too much for this basic, no frills MIM axe, where MIM is supposed to allow "low costs".
So I did a "radical thing" for me, and bought one used , that I was able to get from a local Sam Ash store. Nice guitar. A few things to replace due to prior owner abuse... But all in all a nice guitar.
BUT ... I know HB could make this guitar in Indonesia (Prior "Modern Players" models , were made in China) for about $200 ...
But there is the 24" scale that allows me to attempt to muderelize Andy Summers licks, like "Message in a Bottle"
But pursuing the HB site, and You Tube, I saw this little cousin of my beloved TE 52... The TE 90QM.
Semi Hollow ? P90's 25.5" scale Purty lookin... and killer priced. Has a fret board made of some weird material "Amaranth", that I had never heard of. But after researching it on Google, (a beautiful, harder than maple hardwood, dark in color and great feeling)
I have to wonder in this CITIES world, we don't see more of it. I can say this so far... It appears to be very stable ! Meaning, it so far manifests less fretboard shrink in the cold/ dry midwestern winters, that my much loved caramelized maple fretboards on my TE 52 ...
The fret finish ... is absolutely first rank ! Better than on the $800 Fender Player (which has shrunk since summer) and the $1500 high priced spread American Professional Fender Jaguar ...(the guitar that introduced me to the phenomena of fretboard shrinkage w/its uncured rosewood board) ...
The TE 90 QM is a real sweetie. Great tones and versality. Great build quality. I did replace the tuners, not because they needed it ...
Its just that I string so badly, lockers were necessary. I put Gotoh's on the TE 90's, but after seeing a brand name on the HB site, "Jin Ho" (?) used on some HB models, I looked on Amazon and found them.
Cooler priced, appear to be quality, Holds tune and are a drop in fit on the TE 90 (The TE 52 has much small vintage style peg holes, 8 mm vs 10 mm on the TE 90 . Anyway, I'm in Luv and are currently birddogging the HB site for the CST 24T 90 in black to come in ...
BTW, bought this baby on the Reverb/ USA Official Site. Aside from state sales tax ... seems cool ...
Oh ... and she is my first HB Tele ... that don't weigh 10 LBS ! (I figure about 7.5 Lbs , she a lightweight !... But not tonally !)
