It's my brother's 60th birthday this year and I want to buy him a guitar. I've grown to love my HB and so I'm considering getting him one. He currently uses my old Washburn which has a Floyd Rose style trem and locking nuts. It's a bit advanced for him in terms of keeping it in tune. He never locks the nut. But he likes having a tremolo that can dive pretty hard. I like the look of this for him. harleybenton.com/product/fusion-iii-hsh-eb-fcb/On my HB the locking tuners and graphtech nut work nicely to keep it in tune. Mine's a tele style though so the trem is very mild. Will the above guitar stay in tune if you give it a bit of Steve Vai whammy action? Are they decent for shredding in terms on the action and the higher frets? Any other comments?

Nice topic => flagged ! I know I'll own a Fusion one day, so any feed back is welcome If you take the HH FR model, the tuning will be as stable as a FR1000+locking nut combo can be.... I mean just like all the models that feature this, so very stable.
Wereas with the model above, the tuning stability will be basically that of a Stratocaster model, no more, no less As for the second part of your question, I think you'll find a lot of YT vids saying it is ok.... just keep in mind that very often, and regardless of the brand, a bit of setup work is necessary to have it tuned up to your personal requirements

It's a tricky one as guitars are so personal, so buying one as a surprise gift is tricky.
Visually, I think he'd like something more rockabilly. Maybe one of the big hollowbody ones but for those you do lose a bit of playability high up the neck. My HB Tele is so gorgeous but like all Teles you have to put in the work when it comes to playing it where as I'm hoping the Fusions are a bit like Ibanez RGs in that they're a lot easier to play.
That's the thing about HB though, there's so much choice!
