It appears we have no section for brass or woodwind instruments?? Anyway my son is starting to learn to play the flute at school (primarily because I refuse to let a violin into the house ) so I need to by him a beginner model. Naturally I plan to buy via Thomann (and I might slip in a sneaky guitar order too ). Has anyone here experience of either of these two models? Is it worth paying the few quid extra for the FL-200? (My instincts tell me to avoid the very cheapest model). Unfortunately I know nothing about these things. www.thomann.de/ie/startone_sfl55_querfloete.htmor www.thomann.de/ie/thomann_fls_querfloete.htm

Good luck with that saltee. I've never been able to get a peep out of a flute. Can't even get one out of the top of a bottle. Guess you need the right kind of mouth.
My son went off to Year 6 big school determined to sign up for drumming lessons and came home later that day as a saxophonist! You've no idea the number of reeds a young chap can get through so you'd better thank your lucky stars that a flute makes sound by magic alone.

We got the flute (it was my excuse for buying a guitar too!). Amazingly he can already get a sound out of it (he's had a few lessons at school already). When I tried i got nothing.

Can he play the sash yet? Only joking mate! The flute can sound beautiful (thinking James Galway) - anything is better than a recorder!!

No tunes out of it yet. But he can get it to whistle! A surprisingly complex instrument. I'm going to stick to the guitar.

Who'd have thought there was so much to know? Imagine the music I had to sit through.

I remember renting a flute when I was 17 or so, because I loved (and still do) Jethro Tull so much! I could play it, as in I could get a sound, but I never got proficient at it.

Whats all this recorder hate about??? I would have loved to master the recorder, but due to my limited skills I had to stick to the bass!

There's some nice flute on Weller's first solo album - probably influenced by Traffic
