Another cheap nano pedal that arrived this weekend and I really like it. Far more than any chorus I've ever used.
The main knob is a bit tiny/flimsy and I'm planning to put a spare mini chicken head on it instead once I've had a look inside it. Turn the knob counter clockwise and the sound has a lovely long wahing effect that is not at all 'jet plane taking off' and sounds great after an overdrive pedal to give a bit of movement. At medium settings it is almost like using palm muting and I can see that being particularly nice on single note rhythm riffs. Again, lovely after a bit of gentle drive pedal (I tried it after the Mighty Sound fuzz set to 'not mad' and after a JOYO Vintage Overdrive and both sounded really nice). At the clockwise end of the dial I got some kind of cross between chorus and tremolo which again was really nice.
The vintage/modern switch is neither noticeably vintage nor exceptionally modern (whatever that means) but the modern setting perhaps brings a touch more brightness if you feel that's lacking.
What the pedal really misses is a blend knob that would allow how much of the effect you wanted to add to your sound. An intensity knob wouldn't go amiss either as the single knob present only allows adjustment of the speed of phasing rather than its depth. That being said, the factory set depth is fine enough and sometimes it's nice to just play and not be presented with too much complexity.
I will have a look to see whether there is any trim pot on the depth of phase when I'm inside - but I doubt it at this size - and have a poke at that if it exists.
Naturally the pedal is tiny being a nano size and having now bought two pedals in this format it is making me think twice about going for any kind of nano looper. I think it would be just too small for the regular switch stomping that loopers require. It'd probably just capsize and rely on the input and output jacks to stabilize it unless I lashed it down to a board with hemp ropes.
