Does anybody know anything about the Harley Benton RX-40FR Black Progressive or have played one (or similar HB's)? I'm struggling the find any reviews or info.
I've currently got a number of guitars, 2 Harley Bentons (TE-60 Pearloid and a L-450Plus Honey Burst) a few Fender strats and Brian May Red Special.
What I really want to fill the gaps is a good metal guitar so I can pretend I'm 16 again One with a Floyd Rose Tremolo would be ideal. It won't be used live or anything, just for different option when playing at home and feeling in a heavy mood. I was looking at cheap Jackson V's but then the Harley Benton appeared and it looks great. Plus it's closer to £100 rather than £200 so I can spend the saved £100 on another Harley Benton (I've also got nothing with P90s in, any suggestions? maybe the P90 Les Paul?). After all, you can never have too many guitars
Cheers in advance

Nice! By the way, HB makes the S-620TR, it's a demonic-looking Superstrat with a LiFloRo and it's hardware is gold-plated. Maybe you could buy it later And the LP-450 Gold Top Classic seems to get raving reviews, so I'd say: go for it!

So my EX-84 Harley Benton Explorer arrived today and it looks fantastic, regrettably that's where the good news ends.
There are a number of issues with the neck, most noticeably the strings are increasingly too far from the fret board towards the bottom E. Normally this would be a case of just dropping the bridge down on that side, alas there is also quite a lot of fret buzz even with the strings where they are and I can't see bringing the stings down is going to help. Finally the frets are a little rough and bending feels like dragging the strings over sandpaper. Overall it just feels "wrong" and unfortunately not the sort of "wrong" that can be fixed with a setup and clean.
It's a shame really as my other 2 HB's where pretty much perfect out of the box. Ah well, I guess that's the risk you take, it looks like this one just slipped through the quality control net.
So it looks like this review may turn into a review on Thomann's returns process (which I guess would be handy to see in action). I'll keep you updated on how smooth it goes. I've followed the first part via the Thomann site and I await their response.

Sorry to hear that. Yes most definitely RETURN this guitar and keep returning until you get the one you are happy with. You have the 30 days return right no questions asked, use it, I know I do Im getting a new round-back HB guitar tomorrow I think and man will it go back to Thomann if there is any buzz on the frets. The action is less important because I can file the bottom part of the bridge nut to the desired height.

Well, so far as a review of Thomann's return policy they get 10 out of 10.
I received a pre-paid return label and full instructions at 6am this morning, I followed the instructions and took the whole thing to the local Post Office (who also followed the instructions Thomann had supplied for them) and that was it, I have a receipt and the guitar is back on it's way to Germany. Now I just need to wait for the return to complete to receive my refund. All told one of the less painful processes I've had to follow (and certainly less painful that I was expecting to return to Germany).

I made a demo! The RX-40 is fantastic! !ill make a video about the EX-84 soon... The floyd is a Floyd rose special (80Euro alone) and there were absolutely no problem with the guitar. the only thing is the Output jack. the guitar is very comfortable to play when sitting down until you plug it in. the Plug is hitting youre leg. Hard for me to explain.

i also made a video of the HBZ pickups (subscribers would be nice ) because they are VERY hot and noisy. but they are very good if you know how to handle them. you can tweak them with caps and resistors easily.
