I feel my Bugera V5 has too much midrange and can get boomy depending on settings. Its is known to lack on the trebble side but also bass. I researched around and found folks upgrading the stock Bugera 12AX7 for Tung-Sol 12AX7 for more clarity. They even sell the "Tung-sol set tubes for Bugera V5" on amazon. com seems like there is market for just that upgrade. I have no coins this month but next month this will be my first thing to do because I must make this amp sing my tone on all my guitars (P90, Humbucker, SingleCoils and Goldfoils) without fiddling too much with knobs. Will update this thread when I hear the new tube sound.

Not really a help because I know of that "tone wood" ehm, I mean tube upgrade vs speaker swap debate. I read on Tele Forum that JJ tubes don't do anything but Tung-Sol high gain tubes do change tone of the amp/speaker. The way Tone Knob changes it. Tung-sol gives less midrange which is exactly what I'm after with this speaker. But sure one day when I grow up and I have money I will buy a 1x12 speaker cab for it. Not now though.

Read another 80 page long thread on Tele forum and it seems many are happy with the Blue Turbosound stock speaker.
But some do swap them. Others hear the difference in tube swapping

Yeah, wasn't there an upgrade in the stock speaker anyway from the early ones to the one you have? Or did I just dream that? Yes there was. Actually there was the first cream back Bugera then Red Turbosound and now Blue Turbosound.

And look what you did defjef! Im now researching the Jensen C8R 4 Ohms speaker and is now in my Shopping Cart on Thomann ... will cost me 50 Eur if I decide to pull the trigger...
Do I really need it? I shall play my Bugera V5 tonight until my ears start bleeding to make sure I want to give Thomann so many coins ...

I've got a set Tung Sol 12AX7 tubes in my hifi-amp, they are supposed to sound like the old Mullard tubes. They are the best preamp tubes I've tested in my hifi-amp.... and I went through quiet a lot to find which I liked most.
Tube-rolling is fun! Until you've found the ones you really like.
I haven't got a clue how they will sound with a guitar amp whatsoever.
----- edit -----
Remember now I replaced those with Mullard reissues, these sounded even better.

Briliant, thanks for chiming in blablas! When you say "sound better" what exactly did the Tung-Sol change? Like, what about the Mids (this one is most important for me to reduce the midsey Bugera), Bass and Treble? What about break up point? I know you talk about a bass amp here but still you must have noticed the EQ change in this tube? All info appreciated!

There is no serious difference in the tone, primarily a cleaner sound with more detail and a more balanced overall sound. No bass amp by the way, high fidelity for playing recorded music. That's why haven't got a clue what they will precisely sound like with a true guitar amp. They might be too clean for guitar use.

Thanks for the info blablas! Bugera V5 is already a clean amp I find so that is not what i need but less Mids and more bass and highs. Im reading that Jensen 8" speaker does just that.
Let me be more clear about this;
Its not an issue when the amp is played on low volume but as soon I want to play it louder it starts sounding boxy and muffled by the (Low) Mids. This happens even with single coils and Im not even engaging Gain. When gain comes in its even more boxy on higher volume.
The attenuator does not help with this. I tried to EQ it with my NUX OD pedal which has some nice options but issue persists on high volumes which are not needed for recording I find.
So I either need a 12" cab or try the Jensen C8R which got very good reviews, for a Bugera V5 swap, both on Thomann and around the web.
My HB CG-15 was the reason for me wanting to make the Bugera sound a bit fatter in the low end and more crispy in highs. Its a tiny amp with lots of pleasing Bass (low end) and also crispy highs which complement each other just fine. So if this little box can sound so good and not boxy the the Bugera can too especially because the CG-15 is closed back and Bugera is open back.
