Just wondering if anyone here has ever heard of or tried a guitar from gear4music, basically the same thing as HB or J&D from musicstore.de. This particular jumbo looks similar to the HB CLJ-503CE, be it a bit less fancy, a nato neck and 50 euros less expensive.

I've seen one sit in a secondhand store before, did not know what it was, or cared to find out with a name as odd as "Gear4Music" on it... just makes me think; "well, it is a guitar, so they're not wrong I suppose!" Seeing as how gear4music is moving a lot less product than Thomann they probably do not get the kind of mass-produced discounts that Thomann have on their HB guitars. Combine that with HB having Fishman electronics and i'd steer way clear of these things.

It is darn cheap at 141 euros with a pickup, but it does make you suspicious at the same time...... Here's a review from Amazon: It might not have Gibson on the headstock BUT

Just recieved this guitar from G4M this is my 31st guitar (acoustic and electric) and was blown away by just how good it is. This guitar compares very well with my far more expensive acoustic's They say it is a good first guitar I would say it is a great first guitar and will not break the bank. Please do not be put off by the headstock logo just because it is not a TOP brand logo dose not stop this guitar being a very good buy.
I'll probably email them and ask them some stuff about it.

Sent them a message via Facebook with some questions and quickly received a reply; Hello Marit,
Thanks for getting in touch. Our own brand items do receive a quality check on site, so nothing to worry about there. We do have a few of these in our showroom at York and they do actually play fantastically well for the price! The strings that are supplied with this particular guitar would be the www.gear4music.com/Books-DVD-and-Sheet-Music/Acoustic-Guitar-Strings-85-15-Light/8BH.
Once you do fancy changing them however we do recommend trying out Elixir E11027 Nanoweb Custom Light Acoustic Strings, 11-52. They're great!
Kind regards, Gear4musicSounds promising!

Does sound like good customer service anyhow, how about popping over to York for a test strum or two? Again, no idea how it plays or sounds since i never bothered to pick it up, might be another of those "don't judge a book by it's cover" moments! If you do end up getting it, we expect a full review!

Yes, it's also free return as far as I can see, perhaps I'll take the gamble. It's probably at the same standard as HB guitars. Just gotta decide whether I want the HB CLJ-503CE or this one. I'll do that, for either of the 2 I choose!

There was one of those gear4 music ones hanging in a local music store - but too high for me to reach! It looked really nice - they also had 2 HB'S - think it was the 120 dreadnought. I had an Epiphone AJ 100 and an AJ200 marit - the AJ200 was brilliant - loved it - and the Aj100 was just a step down but great for the price

The AJ-200 was discontinued a while ago, I think it'll be between the gear4music and the HB CLJ-503CE.

Sorry marit - the AJ200 has been replaced by the AJ220 which is the same but with a sanded neck - also in CE as well with a cutaway if you want - great guitars and not a million miles from Gibson j45

Thanks, dodger . The AJ-200 was discontinued a while ago, I think it'll be between the gear4music and the HB CLJ-503CE. Sorry marit - the AJ200 has been replaced by the AJ220 which is the same but with a sanded neck - also in CE as well with a cutaway if you want - great guitars and not a million miles from Gibson j45 I see, it's just I'm looking for a jumbo modelled guitar and these Epis shapes don't really do it for me. The gear4music guitar has a nato neck vs a mahagony neck on the HB, does it make much difference ultimately?

Cheaper than just buying the guitar and getting a gigbag and plectrums - cool!

Cheaper than just buying the guitar and getting a gigbag and plectrums - cool! I know! It was actually the same price where I am (Holland), 199 euros for just the guitar and also 199 with a gigbag and plectrums included. The guitar was prized 189 euros a few months ago and the deal was like 209, this is definitely a great deal now. Can always use a gigbag and perhaps another giveaway for these awesome plectrums

For those interested, the gear4music guitar has now gone down in price significantly, it's 114 euros where I am, plus 4.50 euros shipping.
