I finally got around to putting a set of flatwound strings on my Hofner bass, I bought these from Thomann. It was in need of some fret work, there was a couple of high frets so I gave it a fret dress & polish & it's sounding really good with these strings, they feel so smooth & there's very little string noise. It's got a much better tone compared to the roundwound strings that were on. even noodling unplugged sounds so much better too.
Edit: I think I've put this in the wrong section oops.

I don't think this is the wrong section. We're in basses: other products: strings etc. I was just looking to see if anyone had any comments to make about flatwounds. I'm in the sad position of having to buy new strings for my newly defretted bass and wondered whether to go for a set of flatties?

I just went away and found this on Youtube:
It's no contest for me: flatwounds all the way.

Hi Doofus that's a sweet looking bass. What gauge are you using as I'm always afraid of putting anything bigger than .45 on my old violin bass?
EDIT I just read the title!
