Was looking at this for a serious long term solution (investment) to my sound plate! Would smack it either into a ST-62 or a Squire Affinity (depending what color body Im after) NOTE; I am not Gilmour fan but I dig his sound very much!!! What say you?! Good, no good? LINK at Thomann

Would I need a Fat Strat to be able to place all this PG stuff and battery in?

Pretty sure the linkage/endorsement by DG is adding at least €100 to the price tag.....

Oh I dont know Che. I'm just suspicious of these endorsed products. That loaded pickguard is pretty pricey.

Me too ... its just that instead of 2 tone pots it has: - EXG Guitar Expander for bass & treble boost and - SPC Presence Control provides a mid boost for a more earthy sound
Lots of tonal options there.
Also it seems these pups have no hiss/hum issues.

I have a set of Rose Robustas in my Strat, Handwound and based on the DG tone about €70 for the set I'm no expert on single coils but they are very nice for the price and with the right gear will get you into Gilmour territory I have a 1907s super distortion in the bridge and the Gilmour mod done , the SD and neck pickup is one of my favourites www.rosepickups.com/apps/webstore/

www.northwestguitars.co.uk/stratocaster-wiring-kits/ Have pre-soldered dave gilmour electrics, which in my opinion matter much more than the pickups. I do agree that these pre loaded pickguards are badly priced, maybe combine the northwest electronics with some less expensive pickups, and make your own pickguard. I have used a Fezz Parka electronic set by NorthWest on my Gulf-o-Caster, marvelous stuff all USA made.

The £45 dg kit will cost about a euro to do yourself , a wire from the two of the mini switch terminals to each of the neck and bridge connections on the 5 way switch. I do agree that it is the biggest part of his tone Papache, maybe you should try this first

Thanks lads! I like that solder-free northwest harness because i just dont feel confident to solder to be honest. I just might buy that so pickup swap is instant. There is one with that switch (neck+bridge). I was eyeing that one on eBay for a very long time but never pulled the trigger.

I put a blend pot on a strat instead of a switch so I can have a bit of neck with bridge or vice versa. I find it more useful than the push push bridge and neck pot I put on another strat because I can use it like a tone control just brightening the neck slightly or bottoming up the bridge when needs be. Think I use it more than the actual tone control. If I am holding a long sustained chord it's great to use like a wah pedal too, rapidly panning smoothly between pickups.

I dig his sound very much!!! even if you would take the exact guitar from the video and use it with your amp in your house it will be very unlikely it will sound the same. this has been recorded and edited professionally with keeping in mind the compression of youtube so to get the best sound when i comes out of your speakers/headphones. you must rather see video's like this as commercial phishing. the 80/20 rule applies to this as to anything actually.

Wellllll, why butcher a perfectly fine working guitar if pedal does the job? Ok, pedal costs 3 times more than a guitar, probably that's why

LINK at ThomannI can't imagine his sound without his music. The two seem inextricably linked and are pretty close to perfection for me. Of course, if he's asked to do a session for somebody else, there is a tendency for him to sag a little as he is asked to do that 'thing that he does on such and such a song'. For an old fellah he does seem eternally inquisitive about finding new tones. Nevertheless he is so distinctive that it is a very rare occurrence that I wouldn't recognise him playing on anything and he certainly wouldn't need this plate to do so. Heck even his saxophone playing sounds like him. Only his piano playing doesn't and then he sounds like a watered down Rick Wright. I do occasionally hear some playing by bands like Airbag or Coheed and Cambria and think, 'wow, that sounds just like David Gilmour' but don't think I've ever noticed players using his sound without sounding like him. I'm really interested to hear the sort of music that could be made using Gilmour's sound but not his playing.

Same can be said for Bill Frisell ... matters little who's song he's playing it is just unmistakably him (when I hear him play on the radio for example)
I find folks misunderstand me often. Its not their fault. Its just my unclear nature I guess. Im not after DG tone. I would do something of mine using that Tone as an arsenal for new ideas. Was never interested in copying ... maybe some of my stuff reminds of a known song but that is just a coincidence. Sure all I've hear in the past is somewhere archived in my brains and will leak into my fiddlings of course. The power of the unconscious.
