Might as well leave this here
After seeing this video I'd go for Katana 100 11 times out of 10...

It's the old problem of, "how would it sound in a band mix?". To me, unaccompanied, the 50 sounded better but I reckon that brighter clarity that was a bit harsh in the 100 might be better in a mix. Of course a lot could be achieved by moving the mic around a bit and, although smaller valve amps are often preferable in a studio because you can crank those valves without blowing eardrums, the formula may not work so well with these solid state modellers.

In terms of tonal differences, I don't think the video really shows much difference in the cleans. I thought the jazzy stuff sounded good on both amps. The overdriven gain sounds better on the 100w which is what you would expect.
Here's another nice video with the 100 watt model. Great playing and tone from this guy and you can see his fingers very clearly so that's a bonus!

I tried out the Katana 50 in a local guitar shop. I thought it was really great, super impressed by the onboard effects options and the price point is incredible. I don't have much at all when it comes to effects pedals so I am really considering one, probably the 100W due to the extra options and better speaker. The main con for me is the pure size of the amp, I'd never use that power, my current amp is a similar size and it's too big really, though the Katana does have the attenuator. I could also just buy a Boss multi-effects unit to try out effects and save a few euro.

Bought a preowned katana 50 yesterday. I haven't been able to connect it to my very old computer that's still running Windows Vista, but it's pretty good just on what's there to start. Lovely sound even on low volumes which is what I needed in an amp.

I've been offered a Katana 50 for £100. Should I jump? Any drawbacks to look out for? Older version to avoid or anything?

Not sure if it would give you anything you don’t already have.

I got the impression it was good at driven sounds MartinB . What do you think? My Fender Champ doesn't do overdrive all by itself. I was looking at a Fuultone OCD and it's clones; the Joyo Ultimate Drive and the Mosky Obsessive Overdrive but with the alleged versatility of a Katana, a 12" speaker and an allegedly valve like response I wondered if I might not be better to put that pedal money into the Katana instead and have the overdrive side of life covered. Then again I have the Boss ME-70 multifx and don't find the drives awfully pleasant.

Oh my very goodness what a failure those Fender GT40s are. Not a nice vid anywhere. The Katana 50 on the other hand seems quite at home doing a lot of things including the more indie approach this guy has. With my eyes closed he got started and my first though was , "if that's a Katana there is no way it's entering my house." But it was the godawful Fender. So the Katana could enter...

It is very useful with it’s built in attenuation switch and line out. I did like the different amp settings but ultimately traded it in for the Laney.
If the lack of footswitch and ability to only use 2 fx at once is ok for you then maybe it’s worth considering.
My gut feeling is you should save your money.
