The first 30 seconds of this video show the tone I have in my head but still chase in my fingers. Unfortunately, the pickups cost a crazy ammount of cash, and this bass with those pickups costs a crazier ammount more (Oh, and I want it in short scale! )

Very tasteful bit of right hand muting going on there. What bass is it ? Not that it matter,it's all in the fingers.

It's a heavily relic'd Sandberg California (with Kloppman p'ups). I agree about 95% of the tone being in the fingers, but the guy won't sell them me

Yes, I think they are the most expensive passive pickups that I have come accross (the PJ set works out at nearly 400€, double the price of the bass I would be putting them in!). Don't worry, there is no risk of me spending that much on some pickups unless they are for something really special. To be honest, I see them like something that would end up in a boutique bass that only gets played at home (and maybe studio) through high quality stuff and farting around like in the video. As soon as I leave the house, I am happy to lug something much cheaper around, which will sound just the same (or possibly better) once mixed with other instruments! Doesn't stop the GAS though

I wonder just how many studio players have that stuff ? Turn up with a fancy bass and a list of EQ settings and the engineer will hand you a P bass an say get on with it
