These chaps were fun. I'd say that the sounds that they got were pretty accurate. I find the pickup tone rather unique, sort of thin and gritty but open and chimey too. I was interested to find that this sound is coming from the pickups alone as my skeptical nature has always distrusted the idea that a vibrato on the tail will produce more of that kind of sound. My MS60VW sounds exactly like this and I was starting to think that perhaps there was some sort of added chimeyness being introduced by the vibrato. Not so according to these clips.
The guitar certainly has it's own voice which is quite an unusual thing but it certainly wouldn't be for everyone. If you're looking for a signature sound or want to add different colour to a track in a mix I think this guitar is useful but certainly far from essential. I use mine when the need arises but is a bit of a luxury really because it doesn't do lots of things well.
I particularly liked the cleans around the 2 minute mark. I find the bridge alone very harsh and I must admit have never tried overdriven distortion with my MS60 VW. But that's just me.
"What's that terrible noise?" "Well, it's either the Hoover belt needs replacing or Marc Almond's on Jools again."
