Hi all Just received my first HB guitar ( Sc 450 plus VB ) On the HB website the spec clearly states - Pickups: 2 Wilkinson MWCHB Alnico Vintage Style humbuckers
- Fretboard: Rosewood
However one receipt the box had a taped on label stating
- Black wood fret board
- Roswell Pick ups ( pick up covers confirm they are Roswell)
Any one have any thoughts on the Roswell vs Wilkinson pick ups ?
Also when comparing the guitar to the images on the Thomann site the rear of the body and neck look a lighter shade. Guitar sounds great and plays well but it seems a little strange that the spec has changed without any notification from Thomann or on the web site.
Any one had a similar experience , may i have been shipped a B grade or new spec model ?
Cheers Jim

I think that the specs on the website don't quite keep up. They recently started using Roswell pups instead of Wilkinson because they felt that the Wilkinson bacame less consistent in quality after they moved production. As for the fretboard, alternatives to rosewood will become more common due to tge new CITES regulations. Rosewood will be difficult to find on new guitars in the future. There will always be color inconsistencies because of natural variations in the wood. Also, it's almost impossible to correctly judge the exact colors in a digital photograph unless the photographer correctly set the whitebalance and post processed the photo on a color calibrated display AND you yourself is viewing the photo on another calibrated display.

Regarding fretboards... For sure they will move from using Rosewood. Very few HB guitars left that uses that kind of wood. But regarding description, description on their site could be inaccurate sometimes, although on their main language — German — it's way more strict. I was aiming for DC custom for some time and can tell specs in English and German about fretboard is different. German one is more correct.
Normally when Thomann changes specs without notice that make guitar better — for example coil tap / split came to guitars without notice either. Most of the people report that they like Rosewell pickups better on similar guitars.

As far as I know are Roswell/Wilkinson pickups made by the same Korean producer, the same who produces "Duncan designed" etc. I understood that runs from guitarsmight differ a bit from time to time. However, 1 rule: (At least in Europe) if you don't like what you receive you simply send it back... no problem! It happens =not often= in our several HB groups (Harley Benton Guitars/Harley Benton VIP lounge/Harley Benton France/Harley Benton Italy) that members were unhappy with for instance the fretwork and brought their HB to the local guitarshop for a fret job... which is NOT wise at all. a) If a guitar isn't what one hoped it to be, you can return it OR make clear to the supplier what's wrong (so they can react/solve the problem). By experience I can say that Thomann fights for every customer (they have 8.000.000!). ► By bringing a guitar to a 3rd party for reparation ALL warranty is gone ... of course. RICK
