Hey pnunes76Any bass is good for a beginner The JB-20 is a decent bass and it's thin neck will be a bonus as you learn. A common trap learners fall into is bass blaming. What you mention is a perfectly good bass to "LEARN" on ! It wasn't designed to headline Roskilde. I hear folks all the time adocating spending 100's of euros for a beginner's bass, "it's easier to play", "costs more so you'll be inspired to play" My answer is BOLLOCKS !!!! When I started 35 odd year back the choice in beginner basses was lousy. TBH I'd say the JB-75 I had was better than some Fenders I played mid 80's Buy the bass, tune it and get your ears used to hearing bass notes.Pick easy 3 tunes, download the TAB and play along.Listen how the TAB differs from what you hear then work out the correct way. Can't emphasise enough about keep the bass in tune,it'll improve your ear no end. Take it slowly but if folks ask how you're getting on you'll have those 3 tunes to impress them with. Don't worry about killer tone, effects, big amps. Until you learn the basics those wont be much good to you anyway. If you have questions then ask them. There's an old Scottish Punk, with strong opinions and a bad temper, frequents this place and he might help Be happy, play bass F*** The World !!
