Hey all, I'm new here. Just bought myself a JB40FL and a TE-80NT, love them both! At first though, I didn't love the JB40FL that much, thought it sounded a bit flat and one-dimensional, and didn't have the Jaco mwah. But, I've just had a play through my Zoom B3, and now I'm really in love.
I've attached a couple sound files in the comments (forgive the inconsistent intonation - fretless noob), one flat through an Ampeg SVT sim, and one through a sim of Jaco's rig of choice, the Acoustic 360. Chalk and cheese, the mwah is all there with the 360 patch. Just goes to show that while Jaco's hands and skills gave him his sound, the rig definitely contributed. Thought the audio files might help someone who is considering the JB40FL to convince them to pull the trigger.
I'm not that great on fretless yet, as the sound files prove, but you can get a killer fretless mwah out of this inexpensive bass. Buy one now!
