Was wondering which HB Bass would be best for Marcus Miller modern bass sound, that funky "slap that bAss" sound I see there are passive and active pups in basses as well and he also uses lots of middle range or something like that or? Thanks for clarifying this

The question is, are you Marcus Miller? If the answer is yes, then any HB will give you the Marcus Miller Sound. If the answer is no, then no HB model will give you the Marcus Miller sound. On a serious note however, Jazz pickups and an active preamp will get you the tone, the sound is something you will have to work on yourself

The question is, are you Marcus Miller? I'm no Marcus Miller boy, Im a Superman dammit I understand what you saying but one cant get proper Metallica sound with vintage pups. Instruments do inspire certain sounds I can now clearly see this on my guitars with different pups. Im sure Marcus would not sound like Marcus on a ResoBass One more question so, I see 2 kinds of pups on HB basses; I now know how the Jazz pup looks but what are the other pickups like (what music styles)? Cheers bro!

Single coils and a Bartolini 2 band preamp. So what does this preamp do exactly? Does it act like a boost or else? I also never hear any string buzz when he plays and I do hear it when other (unknown) bass players play bass on you tube. How does he avoid the buzz on low strings? I know, too many questions. But only answer if you find this topic amusing please Just to add; I might get a HB bass guitar at some stage, very likely the cheapest and then mod it a bit. I always wanted to learn how to slap bass so I want to have as much info to make some good plan once I get to buying it. That Bartolini costs too much for my pocket is there a low budget variation on this preamp? Also what kind of low budget pickups can I use for modding?

Bass and treble, cut and boost. Some specs. I used the dirt cheap Artec 2 band bass preamp a couple of times now and really like what it does, it's (in my opinion) better than EMG and Seymour Duncan preamps which are at least three times more expansive, not as good as Bartolini or Glockenklang but those are even more expansive.
