Thanks to @defjef who infected me with the JM virus I couldn´t resist and invested in my single-coiliness and got this beauty: I played an American JM with ebony fretboard in silver burst and that is of course a much better built guitar. But I didn´t want to shell out that kind of money and so far I am astonished by the build quality of the Squier. I feel like I read all threads on offset guitar forums and this Deluxe JM is highly regarded (and besides the color seems to be identical to the J Mascis JM signature). I will report back how she plays and especially of the tuning stability when using the vibrato (or tremolo as Squier calls it). The nut seems to be a bit roughly cut but will see how it turns out: Here are some more pictures: This is the model with rosewood fretboard and this will soon be replaced by "Indian Laurel" whatever that means (could already be the case as the switched to Pau Ferro on some high end JM at least 6 months before officially announcing that switch.)

Ah, lovely and with real Jazzmaster pickups too, unlike so many (all?) the copies. I know @chedapapa hovered around these for a while. Indian Laurel now? What will they find next? Bay tree? Rhododendron? Dandelion? Hope you love the endless switching options.

That is a very nice guitar. Are the Squier JM's full body thickness? It's a moot point for me. Unfortunately the cheapest offset that Fender/Squier offer to us lefties is a Kurt Cobain Jaguar that retails at €1400 . There are no JMs at all.

What do you think of the rhythm switch? I used to love it but a lot of people remove it/ tape it over.

Yes, this was the main point that it has "real" JM pickup cavities (while still being a budget guitar) and that it is one of the last RW models (besides going the +1800 EUR range). Didn´t plug it in yet as I have to work atm. Also didn´t want to go all vintage with that curious bridge on vintage correct JMs. What do you think of the rhythm switch? I used to love it but a lot of people remove it/ tape it over. I think it can be useful - but don´t expect it to use it too much. But I may be surprised in the coming weeks. Who knows?

Yup...got me thinking now maybe I should buy one of those Harley Benton MS-60s before they discontinue them.

JMs don’t sound thin, they have an mellow well defined sound from very warm using the rhythm switch to spanky/ almost percussive imo on the bridge.

DerAlex wasnt it you who told me NOT to buy a JM because it sounds too thin!? Damn it now I have to get one!!! Don‘t remember that (pretty sure it wasn’t me). I was more inclined about the JM pickups being different to P90s which I love. After watching all JM review videos on YT I fell in love with that JM sound that only this special pu construction will give. And those pups won‘t fit in anything else than those special cavities. And yes, I know my Squier has P90s in JM format in it. If the guitar will stay I want to change the PUs to ‚real‘ JM pickups. Will report back on my journey.

This guitar is based on the J Mascis Jazzmaster and he wanted more output hence they probably wound them more which is entering the P90 territory. I think he now uses other pups which are noise canceling (from an interview).

That seems very sneaky of Fender, Che. They don't mention this anywhere. I can't even find any output figures. Why prat about with a desirable guitar, keep the sometimes derided switching, improve the stability of the bridge and then not tell anyone? What's the sales advantage of that? Just to make customers disappointed so that they sell it again? Surely the changes make it a Vintage Modified?

Most folks think its an obvious HINT with that new bridge and the golden PG. They surely know many young poor kids listen to Dinosaur Jr and have no money to buy the sig guitar. They decided to make this one for those and make some money. I dont know what the deal is when they do sig guitars. Does the artist get % from each sold or is it a one time payed deal, or not payed at all but only gets his Ego polished with his signature Thgis could explain why they didnt call it J Mascis Red! Just assuming here, have no clue how they manage this stuff. All in all a good improvement and price considering how much the real Fender Jazzmaster cost!
