I have the Goldtop P90 LP from HB and think it is a great instrument. www.thomann.de/de/harley_benton_sc_450_p90_gt_classic_series.htmI prefer the 4 knob layout so the Custom is not for me. YMMV Also the offset variant has received very good reviews: www.thomann.de/de/harley_benton_hb_ja_60_ow.htmProbably the new CST P90 models are also interesting to you as they look really nice and probably you are after more of a PRS shape!? www.thomann.de/de/harley_benton_cst_24t_p90_ocean_flame.htmI would recommend to try out the Goldtop and if you want to go more high end (in the HB lines) than I would try out the CST 24 P90. EDIT: Probably I misinterpreted your question - and you were looking for P90 vs humbucker opinions!? I LOVE P90s - I think they are the best pickups for crunchy, bluesy kind of sound. Humbuckers are much more "in your face" and thick whereas P90s perfectly combine single-coilyness with a bit of punch. I think one has to own guitars with both kinds of pickups but if I had to choose only one it would be a P90 guitar.

I would certainly go for P90s as they are very versatile pups! If you like fat dynamic clarity which can crunch go for P90. I wish my first guitar was one with P90s!

Thank you the recommandations. It would be my first electric guitar so it is a hard decision. P90 is nice for me due to being between single-coil and hummbacker. I like rockabilly, blues, jazz and rock (and country as well) and I think P90 is the perfect choice for them. (Although I am a beginner.)

If you want a versatile guitar, humbuckers only are not the way. Their sound is often too thick. P90s are definitely better for that purpose, being somewhere in between single coils and humbuckers. Watch reviews of the SC models with this in mind. A possible alternative is the SC-450 plus with coil split, which I understand is also making its way now to the SC-Custom. The Les Paul shape is not very practical to play sitting, by the way, which is something beginners tend to do a lot. But that's another discussion. A Superstrat with HSH configuration and coil split function is the guitar for as good as all purposes. Sound can easily be thickened or dulled out by EQ or effects but missing clarity cannot be regained. Of course "all purposes" require a vibrato bridge. And a 7th string PS: I knew I'd find one… …

I hate coil split humbuckers! What a thin lifeless tone! If you want single coils then get single coils. If you like humbuckers get proper full on humbuckers without coil split! P90's I had played are TE-90QM (great guitar with the old Wilkinsons), SC-450 Gold Top (no name P90's nothing special), G&L Fallout Tribute (modern sounding hotter P90, not my thing, I prefer lower output pickups in general). Also played the new G&L line of Jazzmaster style guitar and sounded fantastic! Single-coil pickups have much more dynamics than humbuckers. Full stop! If dynamic clarity is what you are after then single coils are the way to go. All stuff Distorted and Humbuckers excel at it. But clean and Overdriven single coils certainly rule in my world! All is subjective though. Its a fun journey

I like different pickups for different things. If I were limited to just one type of pickup then my current choice would be the Creamery gold foil I put in my MS-60. But that might just be the novelty factor.
