Hey everyone,
I am considering to change the pickups on my sc-550. I have seen a pair of Vanson 57' Alnico 2 Pickups. They sound very good in the few video's i have seen. Does anyone have any experience with these pickups and are they an upgrade over the the stock rosswels from the sc-550 ? For more information I play mostly classic Rock and Blues.
Thanks in advance for all your answers.
Gr,
Gino

I had them in my HB-35 and think they are quite good (especially for the price). I had the Wilkinson´s in my SC-550 so cannot say anything about the Roswells.
I have now a Vineham Whiskey Burner set in my 550 (www.vineham.com) and this is well ahead of any pickups I have used in this guitar (including PRS SE245, Vanson 57s, original Wilkinsons) for Blues and Classic Rock.
I guess it also depends which music you want to play - the Whiskey Burners for example are a bit hotter than the Vanson 57s so better suited for crunchy stuff. YMMV

I have the Vanson 57's in my SC 550 but there doesn't seem to be much of an improvement to the stock pickups - not to my ears at any rate. I'm thinking of swapping them for the Ironstone humbuckers after being very impressed with their single coil Golds, which I put into a Tokai strat. Link here: ironstone-guitar-pickups.co.uk/product/humbucker-guitar-pickups-alnico-v/I also changed the wiring to the 50's vintage wiring following this video: . This change brightened up the sound a bit, again to my ears. The SC550 isn't my favourite guitar from all the ones I have from HB. It looks fantastic and is well built and, apart from sharp frets, I've had no issues with it. But I've always been a bit unhappy with the sound. It's something I'm still working on, as my other HB's are great.
